Hey we would like some help please :)

We are Australians 22 & 25 years old, currently traveling around the world, and our next stop is Thailand.

For the past 3 months we have been in Europe, working as English teachers.

Now we are unsure when we land in Thailand if we want to continue as teachers or not.

Our aim is to land in Thailand, have a 7 days holiday in Phuket then start working/looking for work.

MY QUESTIONS ARE -

  • When we land in Thailand, are we able to apply for a 60 day tourist visa??
    OR
  • Must this be done before we arrive??
  • What will the cost be??
  • If we are in Thailand, can we obtain a working permit, and how, when we are already in Thailand?
  • What options do we have, if we are already in Thailand and want to stay for 1 - 6 months

* We don't really want to be crossing the border into Cambodia/Malaysia then re-entering.

Thanks in Advance to everyone that helps.

When entering Thailand you will get 30 day entry.

That is assuming you are allowed on the flight.

Without a Visa or a ticket leaving within 30 days you could have a problem.

You need a Visa before you set out.

A Tourist Visa gives you 60 days and can be extended in Thailand for a further 30 days. (1,900 Baht for the extension)

You can get a double and maybe a triple entry from a Thai Consulate in Europe. 1,000 Baht each entry.

When in Thailand you look for a job. If successful and have the correct paperwork you can apply for a Work Permit. You then need a Non Imm Visa from a Thai Consulate as you cannot work with a Tourist Visa.

Thanks for this.

From what we've read, when applying for the tourist visa, we must post our passport with our application form to Thailand.

Is this true? As we are leaving Europe for Thailand in 3 weeks and need our passports.

What is the best way for us to apply for a tourist visa in this time frame? Is it possible?

If we arrive in Thailand without a visa, is it likely they will let us 'holiday' for the 30 days even without a return flight? I am only asking as we haven't booked return flights yet as we are currently traveling the world and never know where our next destination is going to be and we also hope to get a tourist visa or work permit.

Thanks again,

Josh and Lauren.

You must send or take your passport/forms/cash to the Royal Thai Consulate or Embassy in the country you are in. You may not be allowed to board the plane without a visa or proof of onward travel.

You need to apply in Europe before you leave.

Maybe the Thai Embassy in Prague will assist you.

Even though we are only travelers in Europe and we're Australian citizens, we can still apply for a tourist visa in Europe?

How long does this process take as we're leaving this city in 2 weeks.

Thank you for this information.

Kinda depends on where you happen to be :)

Some honorary consulates will allow you to walk in with the passport, forms. photos. cash and walk out with a visa in 10 minutes .. some embassies are slow.

Great reply's already, the secret is controlling your funds when you actually arrive, kudos to you for getting all the pre-entry info stuff sorted but once you arrive here take nothing for granted and expect the unexpected everyday, most of all meet the Thai people in their own homes and enjoy the incredible hospitality you will get, especially in the country and enjoy your tour smile.gif

Also if you have the funds(backup plan) to get you out of the <deleted> if needs be that would be good too.

Thailand can be intoxicating have a great time!

If you wanted you could just arrive and get the 30 days at the airport then go to Laos or Cambodia within the 30 days and apply for a tourist visa there....2/3 days max!

Don't worry everyone in Thailand is extending visas one way or another.

If they made it to Thailand they would get a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry.

A Visa on arrival is something different.

Without a Visa or an onward ticket within 30 days the airline may well refuse them entry to the flight.

Also note that Thailand allows Australians under 30 to obtain working holiday visa's. They are a relatively new thing, and only available to Australian's, so I doubt a Thai embassy in Europe will be terribly familiar with them. Best thing to do is Google the requirements and then take with you and hope they can issue you one.

Actually, the working holiday visa is open to New Zealanders too. But you have to apply in Australia/New Zealand. There are some strings attached, you need a university degree and only a limited number are issued each year. It also allows you to work for a limited period for the same employer (3 months or 6 monhts). Believe the visa itself acts also as a work permit in this case.

The webistes of the Thai embassies in Australia and New Zealand have more information,
