Hi , i purchased an iPhone 4 from eBay. It was incorrectly described as factory unlocked by the seller, however it is in fact locked to 3 network, what options do I have other than returning the phone to the seller, who has offered a reasonable part refund, will it work outside the uk?? If not can anyone advise if the phone can be unlocked when I return in a few days to Los, it is running on 4.3.3 with 04.10.01 firmware.

Three network unlock iPhones but I think the phone might need to be active on their network. If they do it all you do is connect the iPhone to iTunes two to three days after the request and a carrier update will be installed to the phone by iTunes that permanently carrier unlocks it. This service is not available with USA sourced iPhones. You can contact Three and see if they will help you out.

Thanks for the good advice JB, I contacted 3 who have confirmed that they can only unlock if the phone is in use on their network, since 3 do not yet offer a micro sim on payGo my options look to be limited to taking out a 1 month contract which they offer at £10 pm and then request them to unlock before cancelling the contract, alternatively return to seller.
