So I got a brand spanking Samsung Galaxy S 2, and with it a True 3G SIM card.

Phone works like a charm True 3G is fast (at least in bkk, I am from pattaya) ...

The last 14 years I have used the same AIS number, and have started to send

out messages to all my friends with my new TRUE number. It appears nobody

who is using AIS can reach me anymore on my new phone. <deleted> is going on ?

I still have my old SIM card, popped that in to my back up phone, and sure enough,

can not call my new number. Tried calling my old one one from the new phone,

same problem, calls don't get through, no message, nothing ...

phone shows "Call ended..."

Do I have to dial some magic code so that AIS calls go through ? Bribe some

True/AIS official ? Say a special Prayer ? Whats going on ?

Thanks,

rudi

PS: Both phone have full signal strength ...

Does the True SIM work in your old phone?

Can you complete calls to any number? Or is the problem just with True to AIS?

When did you activate the SIM? It might take a few hours for the number to propagate through the system is interconnection gateways.

Finally, I'd contact True if you can't logically figure out the issue.

Until such time as you're sure you are happy with True it might be best to DIVERT ALL CALLS (i.e. "forward") from your AIS number to your True number as this will keep it transparent, and easy, for contacts. Typically this service request can be initiated from a hand-set; and you do pay for the forwarded calls. When you are finally happy with the True number you can inform your contacts, and then maybe set up a voice-mail message informing callers of your new number, and re-Divert all calls on your old number to your old voice-mail.

Crap, I knew I should have asked you guys first. Didn't know I can transfer my number :(

My number definitely was already active, I used the phone 3 for 3 days in Bangkok

before coming back to Pattaya. Didn't have any problems in Bangkok at all.

Anyway, I changed the "Network Operator" selection from Automatic to TRUE. Now it

seems a lot better. May be it is some black magic, as I never saw a roaming indicator

before, which I would have expected if it switched to some other network operator.

Very strange ....

Thanks for all the replies !

So can people on AIS, who previously could not ring through to your new True/SGS2 phone, now successfully ring through? 100% call completion? Can you ring through to them? Maybe you gave them the wrong number, or they were dialing the wrong number? Did they get a service message?

Was this SGS2 from True or DTAC or some other source?

In theory, with a True SIM you should only be able to register on the True network, as there are no GSM roaming agreements in place. Switching from "Automatic" to "True" shouldn't make a difference, but am curious what "a lot better" means?

Personally I would not port your AIS number to True until you are certain you are happy with True's services. Given AIS's new position of power, and turning up of 1,100+ 900 Mhz 3G base stations, and their more competitive 3G packages, I might stick with AIS?

I am 100% sure I gave out the correct number and my friends where

calling the correct number as well. Again, the first 3 days I used this

phone in Bangkok, and the same friends where able to call me without

a problem.

This particular phone I bought from a DTAC store, and was told by

the sales drone it was the same as the one sold by the TRUE shops.

Today I had the problem again. Could not be reached most of the

day .... I am on the east side, but the phone DOES show full signal

strength. I was also not able to call out. Going up to the second floor

balcony, I was finally able to make calls and also imminently got

several incoming calls complaining that I was unreachable.

I still have my AIS number (SIM), and might have to switch back. At this

point, as far as I know, AIS does not have 3G in Pattay (am I wrong ?)

Another thing I really liked about true are the WIFI hot-spots all over

the place ... WIFI is much kinder to the battery (at least it appears it is).

Based on what little scattered, fragmented detail you've provided I'd say you've got bad hardware or have mis-configured the phone. It should be fairly easy to determine the issue given you have an AIS SIM, an "old" phone, a True SIM and a new phone. Just a matter of figuring out which combinations work, and which do not. Good luck.
