I have stopped recommending it unless a client insists, and in my opinion there are far better properties out there for cheaper.

which properties are far better for cheaper studio 36sqm?. we just had an american chap sell his condo here a year ago and after much searching he has moved back and now renting, couldn't find anything evn remotely as convenient for the price.

I know someone living at Trendy, and have to say the descriptions of the street level of Soi 13 are dead right, with rivers of urine flowing underneath the signs forbidding public urination, vast crowds of cheap package tour(?) Indians and Pakistanis herding in and out of the 3 noisy restaurants in the ground floor of the building, and yelling, jeering Nigerians occupying the mouth of the garbage, piss and rat infested street after midnight...

Once you get up to the apartment levels it isn't terrible, if the window of the apartment is facing away from the construction, ie away from Soi 13 itself. They are shoddily constructed, so if your neighbours are noisy, you will be disturbed, as soundproofing is non-existent. The air conditioners are noisy too, and on my friend's floor he pointed out massive water stains along the entire corridor, coming from the same place just adjacent to the front door of each apartment. I was told, don't know how true this is, that toilets in that entire floor were installed unsupervised by untrained workers, who unpacked the toilets and threw away the packing containing the O-rings that were meant to seal the toilet into the waste pipe. So every single one leaked when people moved in and used them.

There is a lot of single week/single day rental too, so if you are near a group of these you may have problems with short termers. There's no laundry room so you must have a washing machine or pay huge Sukhumvit Road prices for laundry.

On the other hand : it is located in a spot that has easy access to BTS, shops, and day or night food and drink. Also you will never be bored as watching vibrant street life in the local sois is better than HBO. The apartments aren't that bad if the leaks are fixed, and you don't see the bad Soi 13 scene from the upper floors. If you can bargain down to B15000 I'd consider it.

Ari is nice, but you'd be lucky to get anything under B16000 there, it's getting popular. Victory Monument seems nice too, though people have warned me that side sois there are "not safe", and decent apartments also seem around the B16000 mark-though I don't say you couldn't get them for cheaper as I didn't look very hard there.

New places at On Nut and Phram 9 seem to be around the B12-14000B mark for the same kind of apartments as Trendy, but a lot newer and slightly bigger. BTS access means expense unfortunately

For around the 16,000THB range you can get some superb condos that rival the trendy's small studio. Here is a couple of examples, Ivy Ratchada, Le Luk, Villa Sathorn, Sense Sukhumvit, Condo One Siam .

I think you will find Soi 13 is the problem location with the Trendy for obviousreasons. And that particular property is 10SQM bigger, 10x nicer and 10minutesaway by BTS. The properties in Sathorn are also much nicer and in a way more luxuriousarea than Soi 13 Nana.Trendyis popular with farangs to buy and rent, however it isn't popular with tenant'sanymore for obvious reasons.

As long as you are close to the BTS in BKK, why would you ever live in Soi 13 (or lower)...unless you were a monger...

It's not like it is cheaper that other places. It's not like other places don't have restaurants and coffee shops.

And if you are unfortunate to have to work in that area, an extra 5 or 10 minutes on the BTS is not that much of a hassle.

Trying to rationalise living there with being a "good deal", "convenient", "cheaper" or "nice once you get inside"....doesn't fool anyone.

Absolute flagrant agency advertising, with usual misleading copy! While the Trendy has a lot of faults at least you can get condos which are really "around 16000B", i.e. some are available at 15000B. The ones you mention are nearly all 17000B-20000B, and not notably very close to BTS or MRT. So you are kindly informing punters that if they pay more money they can get a better apartment. Thanks!

The single one that actually is in the range and is near to BTS ( 15000B, On Nut) is, if you can believe it, smaller than the Trendy units at a miniscule 30 sq m!! Why is this better?

4 out of the 5 condos in my post are closer to the BTS thanthe Trendy, I apologies if you don't think 15000 and 17000 is "around 1600". It'spossibly personal opinion? Only 1 of the condos is a few SQM smaller and thathappens to be 1,000-2,000 cheaper.

Advertising is what keeps this forum informative and free touse for the expat community. And I didn't realise "we had a bad rep" since weare honest, free and get farangs the best deal possible. We have never had anycomplaints for doing that, yes there are a lot of "cowboy" agents around however;none of them are ThaiVisa sponsors.

I live in BKK 4 days a week and CM for 3 days a week and I own a riverside condo. Your failure to address my points in favor of an attempted personal attack tells me I hit a nerve.

No doubt the Trendy is convenient…but let’s not try and disguise that “convenience” or your reason for living there.

But if you enjoy living along street lines with hookers, Men in frocks (katoeys), African street pimps, drug dealers, Child porn seller, fake Viagra, expensive street food, pee stained walls, construction sites, dodgy late night karaoke bars, rats, drunks, beggars and can tolerate lax security, buses of Pakistani’s, poor construction, leaks…and call that convenient, then sure, I see it.

Not a popular soi to live.That's why it's cheap.I think you'll get a better deal 100 meters further down on the left at Sukhumvit Suites. While at ground level it looks crappy, up at the residential floors the common areas are kept clean, security is good, and you get twice the amount of space for the same price as a newer block minutes away

I agree 100% with the above. If you want to live in that area, check out Sukhumvit Suite, it is the tall odd shaped building half way inside the soi. You can get a room at 30+ floor for 20K or so.

Have a look at the lobby at 14th floor. Lots of units posted at a public board.

I live in a suburb on the MRT line, not far from the BTS, the rents are lower, the neighbors almost all Thai, the apartment complex owners know us on a first name basis and the security guards really look after us...why anyone would like to live in a ghetto-complex downtown with higher rent and all the problems that comes with people from some countries I have no understanding for.

I think Sukhumvit Soi 13 WAS a great place to invest. used to stay at the Miami Hotel, when it was 3000 per week and the Dollar was getting close to 60. I don't think Sukhumvit prices are justified, and as a single guy--there are much better places to hang out. Some one else mentioned Victory Monument--I think it would be extra noisy, but I think it would be lots of fun, and very convenient. Can't remember seeing a place with so many, single, educated, good looking women, that seemed to be more than happy to chat a little with a farang. The trick is to find the next popular place, usually something that is now cheaper, but has lots of potential, and is in a good location. People were "crazy" to buy 200 year old row houses in Georgetown DC in the late 60s for about 10,000 USD--now they are 2 million--and the folks aren't having more fun than before.....

I can give an update being here five years or more now as a Co owner. We have had a support group meeting with Management and they have pretty much accomplished allot in the way of Putting security cameras on every floor, locking the doors on each Stairwell and putting key cards to be used for the Corridor door between the Plaza offices and the Trendy Residents which is locked at night.

Security CCTV in the lobby, and getting Security doors for the sixth floor pool and gym area are being installed.

The situation with rentals have been brought to the attention of the Lands Office etc and signs have been put up in the lobby and lifts and gym and pool area explaining that rentals of less than a month are illegal as per Hotel and Condo laws and cowners and agents have been warned.

The Pool is cleaned daily and it is a good pool and Jacuzzi and the gym has a man working there six days a week and it is well stocked and good size.

The garden is very big and has benches on the sixth floor and good for jogging as well.

Steam and Sauna and Showers are kept well now in both mens and women's locker room.

The Support group of ex pats meets with Management and Juristic every other week to go over issues brought up by members of the Co owners and long term renters support group.

Of course not everyone agrees things are going along fast enough and differences of opinions but things are moving along in the right direction and the Hyde across from the Trendy is under construction again and raised by about ten floors and units made smaller and we are told going for about 150,000 baht a sqm, and another next door to Trendy is rehabbed and being made into a high rise Condo as well.

We still have the best location here with BTS and MRT in easy walking distance, and an alley across to Villa Market is very convenient and since the last time I wrote Terminal 21 has been built with great movies and restaurants and shopping.

All in all it has improved greatly here since my last post and I believe once they get the rental situation by the month and more for allot of the units, it will be for me as a retired person more like a home instead of a hotel atmosphere.

Shouldn't the purpose of the OP's visit to Thailand be a factor in choosing the choice of residence?

If he is a monger/wannabe monger, then why discourage him from staying at the Trendy / lower Sukhumvit?

Anyways, I digress; OP, if you're just looking for a decent place to live with farang population in the area, I would also consider the Rathadaphisek area along the MRT. I

Some pretty decent condos around Sutthisan / Ratchadaphisek/Huay Khwang for approx.12 -15k, and not too far from Sukhumvit.

Central Rama 9 / Esplanade / Robinson / Big C are all within close proximity, some good food around there as well.

A regular poster on TV, ''zorro1'', was always a staunch advocate of The Trendy - I think he owned a few there. Wonder what he thinks of it these days.

The whole area from the corner of soi13 untill ASOK bts will be clear of street vendors within 6 months when the Sofitel opens and the showroom./sales office is currently under construction at the regent (across the road) which will be a 5star hotel/residence when it is finally completed.

Well that didn't happen, did it?

There's more vendors and street bars than ever and Sofitel has these big plant pots outside and the ladyboys lurk behind the foliage before jumping out with a creepy "Hellooooooo"
