If one of the reasons that people voted for Thaksin's party is because of the state of the economy and rising prices under Abhisit compared to "the good times" under Thaksin, then they're going to be in for a rude shock.

Just ignore Jayboys snicker about the bloody crackdown on the PAD demonstrations. He don't mind if any 'yellows' die. Just remember his disregard for human life the next time he complains about other posters - it is all about scoring points.

We are still not sure how one of the yellow shirt protestors died, due to corruption by Dr Pornthip wrt the fake bomb detector that she used to 'investigate' said death. Jayboy raised valid points. Your point is?

And the red shirts were exactly the same- they needed martyrs.

I agree though the brutality and bloodshed inflicted by the authorities was on a completely different scale.

The scale of violence inflicted on the authorities were on a completely different scale too, the PAD employed very little violence compared to the red shirts.

Yeah the "good old days" are long gone ,inflation will rise along with interest rates ,and as per usual the rich will get richer and the poor poorer.

That's true.In both cases I suppose one should say violent elements in the PAD and violent elements in the redshirts: most on both sides were blameless.

Oh please. I think Pornthip has a little bit more credibility than you.

Whereas in Thailand the party hugely influenced by Thaksin won an easy popular victory at the polls, unanimously acknowledged to have been fair and transparent.

Make no bones about it, they won; but easy? A 3% fall in house seats garnered and they would not have managed a majority and may well have not been the ones forming a coalition government. And perhaps were it not for campaigning with the use of blatant outrageous lies, like the 300 baht minimum wage and the 15,000 baht for all college grads (not proven as lies yet, but mark my words, they will be) then perhaps they wouldn't have barely crept over the line as they did.

I'd say it wasn't one of the reasons, it was the main reason. Will be funny to witness the u-turn that will inevitably come, if it hasn't come already, from the PTP, from blaming rising prices as being the fault of the government, to being the fault of the world economy. And no doubt the Dems doing the same dance but the other way round.

Amazing the Thais actually elected her. I guess it was just a vote for Thaksin and against the dems, no matter who the PM was.

It was a vote against amart cheats who cheated their way into power by disbanding parties, coming up with trumped up charges which were often politically motivated, abusing the LM laws to suit themselves, killing demonstrators, abusing freedom of speech by banning thousands of websites. All in all a pretty nasty bunch of actions by some self centered, nasty people. Fortunately the Thai people saw through all of it and voted to put an end to the Abhisit Government nightmare. I'm beginning to believe in Karma :jap:.

Agree.

Yingluck doesn't have to call who will be who and can wait. Reports in other Thai press, appear to be talking about other real issues. The Nation appears to have own agenda?

The use of weapons by the red shirts was also completely on a different scale. You throw grenades at soldiers in riot gear and they will come back with guns. But provocation was the whole intent, wasn't it? Generate a few corpses to wave in the government's face.

I was discussing her use of the fake bomb detector, a device which she very vocally supported after it was exposed a fake. Have you discovered something about said bomb detector that all the world's experts have missed, or were you just satisfying an urgent need to flame me?

The violence as a whole was on a completely different scale after April 10 2010. Anyone wanting to get a genuine overview of this should look at the reportage and witness accounts of journalists who were on the ground. Those who had a pre-formed view of things before April 10 can just stick with desperate attempts to shoot the messengers ;) .

On the subject of protest leaders wanting protestors to die for PR effect, we still have no proof whatsoever of this, other than a rather vague leaked 'cable' by former Ambassador Eric John which referred to the Yellow Shirt protests.
