Tropicalevo Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I wonder if BigC being 'kept' in Bangkok has anything to do with all of the RTAF jets flying over the island at the moment. (4 or 5 today so far.) Does anyone know what is going on? Hey BigC - it might be safer staying in BKK
Rooo Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 As a matter of fact, I was sworn to secrecy. But the cat is out of the bag so speak .Big C is not in Bangkok he is doing recon flights over Samui.

Perhaps the RTAF is on a search and recue mission??? .... they were flying around late last night too.... should we let them know, he's stuck in BKK? do you have your tracking device turned on Big C??? Guess you should have got a return ticket?? And yes the island is swamped with tourists now!
Xonax Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Why don´t you go by train or bus then? I used to enjoy the first class sleeper on the train to Surat Thani. Buy a first class train ticket to Surat Thani, with joint connection to Samui by bus and ferry, and pay a little extra to have a single room on the train, if you are traveling alone.

Samui Coconut Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Yes, Samui is busy, long weekend ahead (mothers day, full moon party). Try to go and book a ticket after 4.00pm daily, that is the time they release internet bookings wich have not been paid yet. A small insider tip on the side. Good luck.
PoorSucker Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Do you have the Samui resident card. Gives you priority stand-by.
samuijimmy Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Do you have the Samui resident card. Gives you priority stand-by. ah!!! there is something, I keep hearing about this Samui Resident card", could you please expand on that... where to get .... etc ???? I have a local drivers license, that is really useful for many things when ID needed (don't need the blessed passport to carry around, it has your passport number and address on it) .... is resident card same same or different? I hear the jets still flying around right now.... they must be still looking!~

Maybe BigC hired a private jet to get back to Samui and the RTAF gave him an escort???

BigC Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 @Big C, take 2 seats in the VIP Bus...... sorry had some bad experience with so called VIP buses. i decided i ain't falling for their crap again. also i have notice in the paper they have nicked a load of people robbing the bags on the buses in the local newspaper that is not why i don't use them though. i went up to bangkok onece with my misses. Had a very nice expericence. ice big seats the <deleted>. next time i thoug i'll go again samui route. My misses bought the ticket. everything was going smoothly. till i walked round the corner. she starred at me as if to say. forang. money. then we went to outr number bus. the driver told us we were on the wrong bus. then went to another bus where directed us. that bloke then directed us to another bus. then we were told to wait fro the bus to arrive from samui. 1 hr later. i nice bus arrived. guess what that was not our bus. had to wait again and some shit box turned up we were grammed in and stuffed into a small space a wisked to bangkok. then i realised that my money was paying for those thais to have the nice propper VIP buses. The train isn't so bad route. from BBK though from surat don't be suprised if your train is delayed by 5 hrs. rarthr sweat it out in bangers. ain't that bad just wait in a nice hotel till a seat is avalaible. admiring some cutlure sites. )

samuijimmy Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 There was a humongous boom here, last night I thought you have been dropped off by the RTAF.... turned out to be thunder and a bunch of hot air..... followed by rain! Read the posts from Mole, he gave some good advice on buses from BKK. (follow link below) Train is good too, lots of room to move around... But think you are hitting FMP time, so it's all going to be extra busy! .... perhaps another week in BKK? buses from BKK / Samui
phetphet Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Cheap air-sea route to BKK opens - courtesy of http://news.samuiexpress.net/cheap-air-sea-route-to-bkk-opens.html Saw this in an article on the net: High-speed ferry operator Lomprayah joined with budget airline Solar Air to offer fast but cheap combined air-and-sea transport service between Bangkok and Samui. Passengers could fly from Bangkok ( Don Muang airport) to Chumpon, where Solar Air has daily frequency and then take a high-speed Lomprayah ferry to Samui. Travel time between Bangkok and Chumpon is 1 hour and 15 minutes. A high-speed ferry trip between Chumpon and Samui takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes. The daily Solar Air flight to Chumpon leaves the Don Muang Airport in Bangkok at 9:45 a.m. It arrives in Chumpon at 11 a.m. in time for the early-afternoon ferry trip to Samui. Solar Air’s website lists the fare (one-way) at Bt2,900, while Lomprayah has it at Bt1,100. From Samui, a Lomprayah high-speed ferry leaves for Chumpon at 8 a.m., arriving there at 11:45 a.m., also in time for Solar Air’s flight to Bangkok which leaves Chumpon at 2 p.m. Styling itself as the “community airline serving secondary routes,” Solar Air began operations last year. It operates out of Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport, offering services to Mae Sot, Nan, Roi Et, Hua Hin, Phrae and Chumpon using a 19-seat Dornier DO-228s and EMB 110-P2 aircraft leased from Germany.
BigC Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 Bt2,900, while Lomprayah has it at Bt1,100. seems a bit steep considering total time about 4000 baht each way. another few grand and u can be in your arm chair in 1 hr
