August 17, 201114 yr You may be forgiven for having missed the sideshow emerging at Blackburn with the hapless Indian owners, Venky's. I first noticed them with their reprehensible behaviour over the transfer of Phil Jones to Man U, when they were either too stupid or too greedy to understand the nature of his 15 million quid escape clause, as they tried to get 25 million for him. Can you imagine anything more ridiculous. But I reckon this has done them (or unfortunately Blackburn)long term damage as players twigged that you can't trust the owners to stick to their legal obligations either through wilfulness, greed or just ignorance. The message it sent out was "we will fail to understand the nature of our contractual obligations". This summer they have sold a lot (11 players) but recruited just three, and no decent players (and nor have Everton but we do have a functioning squad). They have been knocked back by a string of players, including Raul, yesterday, over what can't possibly be money? Aren't the owners supposed to be loaded? And then there has been supporter controversy about the team plugging the owners' chicken meals in India, which does look naff for the Rovers brand (but not the chicken food) (http://sports.ndtv.com/football/news/item/176702-blackburn-fans-venky%E2%80%99s-chicken-ad-has-made-us-a-laughing-stock). And there are all sorts of "misunderstandings" and "miscommunications" going on about the availablilty of funds, of the club's relationships with players, and just what will happen in the final weeks of the transfer market. I have nothing against Blackburn at all, but unless they sort themselves out, I can see them going down this year.
