Before I went to the Jomtiem Immigration I looked on this site and instead of helping me it just confused me, as there were so many contradictions. So here it is, I,m just back from there and like it or not this IS what they required, nothing more or less.

. Passport, with copy of relevant pages.

. Letter from my Embassy vouching that I had the 65,000 income into my bank account (in UK not here)

. Letter from my bank here in Thailand and photocopies of relevant book pages pages. had 300 bht in so for what ???? did,nt ask.

. 2 photo,s

. 1,900 bht

. Form / from front desk.

Go at 11.30 and collect at 2 pm, all done. No proof of this and that, just them items. Easy.

It would help if you mentioned where this was as it is not the same every place (Bangkok for one never asks for bank letter or account if using income).

Well, i was married and got non-o both in bkk & Vientiene, but the immigration in Jomtien refused to renew it, they would just demand more proof indefinitely each time, so i only got 3 month out of it.

So he did - lost it in the preface. Normally I lose the header reference.

You're just getting old, like the rest of us mortals!!

And just think, some people use lawyers/agencies at a high price to do something that is (to quote the OP), "Easy."

Depends how you value your time

If you bill $140 an hourr or at least more than your lawyer delegation is good value

If you live on 1000 baht a day a few days getting your ducks in a row hanging about in Offices and doing your own copies is good value.

I feel a bar in all Offices would increase customer satisfaction, perhaps a floor show for really lengthy extensions

One day they could, not necessarily will all be doable on line like Oz or USA,once they've sorted out the tea contribution

I am sure they will always find a convenient niche to "oil" the wheels

I have used immigration in Chiang mai and Bangkok no tea money requesed, if you have info on a office requesting tea money maybe you should let us all know.

rocky123 what you will learn over time that there are a lot of people here expressing there opinion and many times they are misinformed or just wrong. The moderators here are very well informed and if you get your question answered by one of these visa gurus just move on because after that who knows

You have made reference to tea money twice today. I have been traveling here since 1969 and have yet to be asked for any such payment. And when I have seen most reports of this it has actually been an extra service fee of some type (overtime/faster/queue jump) rather than a pay or not receive any service situation (as I often found in the Philippines). As for lawyers being worthwhile for normal extension of stay application from all reports I have seen the lawyer use often increases the time required by applicant to take care of the matter. You will still have to attend/sign/submit and how many seconds does it really take to make a few copies. Lawyer might be worthwhile for more complex matters if they were the reliable source of requirements but in fact they often are less reliable than you will receive in a simple post here.

Recently a friend of mine went to renew his marriage visa at Jomtien however, since his wife was out of the country, she was unable to accompany him. The officer refused the application and then told him that for a few thousand baht extra he would ensure that the visa was granted. Unwilling to pay he then applied for a retirement visa which he received without any problems.

I don't expect there are many expats in Thailand on retirement extensions of stay making $140/hour (or converting to an 8 hour day approx $1120/day, Bt33,600/day). Plus, the member still has to do leg work while the lawyer/agency only fills out one or two one page forms which is mostly address info, passport info, date of birth, etc. Also wonder how these rare highly paid, retired individuals got a work permit on a retirement extension of stay that prohibits working--doubt even a lawyer and tea money could pull that off, but I expect some TV member will say they have a work permit on their retirement visa/extension of stay.

For me, I'll just continue to fill out that primary school level retirement extension of stay form myself (I've pretty much got my name, date of birth, and address memorized now). The only part I do hate is getting that yearly passport-sized photo for the application form and having to see in the photo that I look a year older. Stop, I can't tell a lie, I've only been getting a photo taken every two years and use that photo for two year's worth of applications. :D

Don't forget: Rocky's experience is Rocky's experience. If someone else will go to Jomtien Immigration, same age, dressed properly, same circumstances, same all over and takes the paperwork that Rocky produced there may be huge problems for whatever reason.

So you make $140 an hour and can't afford to use a couple of hours without billing anyone? Do you cry when you have to eat or going to sleep?

And all the hogwash about this and that...convinced its the visa companies trying to make it sound dificult. But remember to get the re-enrty visa cos although you can stay here a year if you leave without one you have to reapply. Just happened to me !!!!! angry.png

Is it possible to book an appt. online for Pattaya or Sriracha please ?

If so what sort of time prior to renewal ?

The only thing a lawer really does for you is get you to the front of the line at the expense of those who are too smart to get a lawer. Yesterday while waiting for my number to come up for my retirement extension which takes less than 10 min with an immagration officer, those runners would come in and the que would stop while they took care of thier clients. that crap really pisses me off, not the time part but of the stupidity of people who hire them.
