Avocado Trees

Featured Replies

Anyone know where I can get some Haas Avocado Grafts in Phuket? Ive heard its possible to buy them in Surrathani, and Im willing to drive there for them. Also has anyone grown them here in Phuket?

We tried to buy them here and the only tree we could find in a garden centre was grown from a

seed in a 6 inch pot and was roofed into the ground and they wanted 400 baht for it

You can grow your own from seed in a glass of water with 4 toothpicks stuck in it so only

the bottom half is in the water, it takes about 3 months to sprout roofs and a shoot from the top

Them transfer them into a garden pot with good soil in it and let them grow before transferring them into the ground

There is a nursery at Tak up near Chang Mai that supply grafted trees but its a long way to go

and its the only one i could find on the Internet

Ok thanks peter. I'm looking for the grafted variety as the seeds take 7 years to bear fruit. You wouldn't have the website for that nursery would you? Also do they grow well down here in the south?

No i do not have the website, google avocado trees Thailand and you should be able to find it

We have just got to the stage of growing the seedlings in pots but i have been told they will grow OK as long as the soil is right

If you do decide to try growing your own, do not throw the seed away because it is split like Mrs PCA did with our first one

The seed splits before the roots and shoot appears

I believe it is difficult to grow a grafted or any avocado in Thailand. The weather and soil isn't fit here. I tried to plant it once when I stay over at my Thai friend's farm in Nontaburi.

They are grown commercially in the north of Thailand, you can occasionally buy them in the shops here

and they are about twice the size of the imported ones which are only half mature

They grow them in Queensland Australia so i cannot see why you cannot grow them here if the soil is well drained

OP you might jump into the Chiang Rai Forum and contact Don, of the old Don's Mall.

I'm pretty sure he has fruiting trees and maybe you can bribe him to toss some graphtables into his vehicle the next time he comes to Phuket. Or ship....
