A friend has a small boutique resort and at the moment the place is full of Aussies happily proclaiming how cheap everything is. When I bought my last vehicle it was about 70 baht to the pound. Got a new car last week at about 49 to the pound. I do my crying in private.....

Probably no relief anytime soon, but I'm sure the old timers remember when it was 30 or below before 1997.

Baht 20 = $1, for lots and lots of years, up to 1981 when it was allowed to float a bit;

baht 21 = $1 up to CRS, when it wen to 25

July 1997, bang! High point was end of January 1998 when it hit a bit over 50 for a few days.

See chart below, data only goes back to 1993. Made with this www site, fun to play with: http://fx.sauder.ubc.ca/

I'd be happy if it remains around 30 baht to the dollar. After the brawl between Georgetown and China last night, China may give the word to lower it.
