Hi All

My present Marriage Visa Extension expires while I am in the UK in October. The day before I fly back

So as the paper work to do the first Visa Extension is the same as every other one and seems to have no real bearing on the fact you've been married for X years in Thailand, I was wondering whether it is worth the hassle of trying to get it done early or simply come back into Thailand on a new tourist visa and get the extension done when that Visa is about to expire. Question being, as I can't remember, is any specific Visa required for the marriage visa extension or is what every you have good enough?

Tks

A non-immigrant visa is required for the marriage extension, so you best get a non-O from a consulate in the UK before flying to Thailand. With a copy of your marriage certificate, you should get it with no problem.

If you arrive in Thailand with a tourist visa you will first have to get a change to non-O at the immigration office (fee 2000 Baht) and then the marriage extension.

A marriage extension has a 30 day under review period so he would have to apply more than a month before planning to leave. It is likely too late to even ask.

You could apply for a 60 day extension, it will be up to immirgation to grant it as it is normally given to stay with your wife, but if you explain the situation they might OK it (don't forget the re-entree permit). That would give you 60 days extra from the day your current permisison to stay ends.

Take your wife with you to immigration and the usual things, such as her ID and Household registration/proof of address etc.

Thanks guys, we leave Oct 10 so just enough time to get the visa and re-entry done before we fly out. I have to go in for a 90 day next week too so I can check with immigration on getting the marriage ext done early, I had heard it was a major pain to have them agree to do it early.

If you are planning to apply for PR your three continuous years in Thailand will be ended.

Seems to me he is planning to get his extension early. In that case he will still have continous stay in Thailand.

And under current policy citizenship is available to those married to a Thai without PR so not sure it is of much value in that case.
