Yikes..thats nearly 3k per month :o

Theres no way you could possibly rack up that sort of bill, with a meter or otherwise. You would have to run the air con 24/7 and have hot showers and be cooking every 4 hours.

I have never paid over 1,500 per month for power, and thats with 2 people not bothering to economise.

Maybe you should tell them this much usage is just simply not possible and see what is the response.

twaddle.

I live in a small house run 1 ac all night and one most days, and my bill is consistently higher than 3k

Always make sure the condo owner will give you the electricity bill from the government. Or that you put it in your own name. You can pay it at 7 Eleven and it will be normal price .

I would never accept anything else, most rental condos in Bangkok will do this.

When i was living in a Bkk condo, my electricity was around 4-5k every month, remember that the condo management can charge you whatever rate they want for the units you consume, better to have a look at your contract before you sign up for anything.

I think we pay about 1200 or 1500 a month for a 3 bedroom apartment w 3 aircon units. This includes the added percent(s) of the building. It is my wife and I and daughter. I would guess on average it equals running 1 a/c unit 18 hours a day since the bedroom ones are on all night but our daughter probably stays at her friends apartment 2 or 3 nights a week.

You should check to see what rate they are charging you to see how much they have marked it up and at least negotiate that down.

Correction ... it is a 2 bedroom with 3 AC's

Thanks for all the feedback. I thought I was monitoring this forum and didn't think I got any responses so I'm glad I checked. I am meeting with the condo owner tomorrow to hopefully get my deposit back and he was as shocked as I was to get the same word doc bill. Last week, I spoke with building management who told me to contact the developers - the ones issuing the electric bills...funny they wouldn't issue the water bills as well. Anyway, I called and asked 'whiskey tango foxtrot' (nicely of course) and they told me they would talk to their manager and get back to me. I called again last week and sent an email and no response. I get the feeling they know its shady when they can't produce a monthly bill. How could they expect anyone to take them seriously with a bill like that....it's literally two columns with the month and amount x 12. The rate seems about right since I was paying about the same at my old condo and I use the AC nightly and cook a lot. If I had a shady landlord like the last one who kept my entire 'security deposit' because my maid broke a couple dishes than I would be a little more worried about losing all of my deposit...but this one has been very up front. Like one of the other replies stated I guess you just come to except it here unless I get a 'lawyer' to write a letter threatening to take them to the pay under the table court of law. I will count my loses if I don't get my security deposit back but how do you run a business like that (rhetorical question)?!
