Which is easiest place to get the Cambodian visa at the border?

I've only done the organized visa trip to Poipet in the past. Then the tour bus would drop off passports at a Cambodian consulate (?) near the Inter Hotel sign on the main road in just before the border post. I've heard you can also get Cambodian visas at a counter after passing through the Thai departure immigration post before reaching the Cambodian entry post near the archway.

Why bother with organised trips? Its a rip off!

You can get a visa on arrival from any international crossing into Cambodia ( I say international as some I think are still only open to Thais and Khmers )

Step 1

go to Mo Chit bus station

step 2

get bus to Arranyapratet

step 3

get tuktuk or moto to border

step 4

leave thailand, get cambo visa, enter cambo, see poipet from the roundabout and realise what a toilet it is and cross the road to exit cambodia, enter thailand

step 5

get tuktuk / moto to bus station

step 6

get bus to bangkok

step 7 go home

just remember your passport photo or it will cost you an extra 100B. cost of visa 1000B and you might get away without paying the same day exit fee from cambodia at the exit desk if you say already paid over there ( pointing to the arrival desk)

if you want more details go to

Tales of Asia and it has everything including a map

No Passport... No entry for a Thai to Cambodia

I tried it with a group of Thai friends from Buriram and tried to Enter Cambodia at Arranya Prathet.

I was stamped out at the border, but y friends were all turned back..

I then had to go through the whole visa run process in order to get back into Thailand, expensive and time comsuming mistake!

Sorry if I have red this wrong but I assume you guys are going for a re-entry visa run?

I go to Arranyapratet every 90 days to get my stamp and it only costs 2000 baht from Pattaya, ok it's a 10 hour round trip but everything is done for me on the Cambodian side all I have to do is exit and re-enter Thailand myself, the paperwork is done in the travel office when I book the trip, it's a hassle free process :o

Things have changed a little on crossing in to Cambodia.

The Immi office, ingoing, has moved 300mtrs down the rd. past the casino on the right.

You still apply for yr visa at the original shed just nr the bridge on the rt.

Fixers are ok to use, just pick a quietly spoken one, fees are 100B per transaction for the fixer. Don't believe any BS about higher fees, if they do try it on, find another fixer, I think I paid 320B all up.

Look out for the little <deleted> who is running a scam from the Health dept, he will give you a yellow slip of paper, abt 1/3rd A4 and charge you 20B, tell him to get stuffed or ignore him.

He looks like a double for Uncle Ho, thin wisby beard etc. etc.

The departure office is opposite the arr. office, here's where the fixer comes in handy if there is a long que. 120B was the fee.

Take Thai B., USD$ are no longer accepted. 1000B for the visa is the norm.

Tuk tuk is 50B to the border and VIP buses back to BKK cease at 3pm, the scruffy buses take over then.

Chok dee.

Stuff Aranya it's getting worse every time I go there. This time I went by Motorbike via highway 33 just for fun and it was great until the border. I know the process pretty well having done it 3 or 4 times. The fee is 1000 in and 100 bht to exit. They are trying to tell you the fee is now 1500 except at the office where there is as little info as possible to see.

The scam with the yellow health paper is still used and the buggers are after as much as possible in running services. The visa touts don't take no for an answer anymore but follow you like dogs trying to claim they are helping and deserve something. The kids with umberellas are now saying f*!% you if you don't let them and i saw a couple shouting at a falang for more money after he gave them 20bht to keep him in the shade for 100 metres.

There is a lot of money being made there believe me. One tout was keen on showing me his latest colour sony, mobile, computer, video thing that must have cost a fortune. Pratt !

The market is a racket set up years ago that gets second hand charity clothes to sell on. Trouble is of course the poor don't get the benefit ohhh no. Just a few mafia boys. Last time i'll do a visa run there as I can get treated like shit with at least a smile at he other Cambodian border in the south east. I think :o

Don't get me wrong I love Cambodia but as for a visa run it sucks

Just tell the touts that you have been coming to the border for 4 yrs, and that you are not a tourist, they tend to back off at that news, but I agree with you about the scams and attitude of the Cambo Immi officials....... fock them! :o
