I am looking to fly to Seattle Washington from BKK and got two prices the same for Delta and United,

my question is what is the better carrier and service Delta or United ?

Posted

They're both about the same. OK airlines. Cathay Pacific, JAL, EVA, KAL are all better...but usually more money.

Where did you get the prices from?

Posted

Got the price from Expedia, and the trip will also take me to edmonton alta. the connections are through Tokyo then Seatle or Sanfrancisco.

Average price for ticket is 1480cdn.

I will look at eva air and jal to now that u mention it

You can usually book directly with Delta or United and get the same price or better. Expedia is OK, but if problems arise it's easier to deal with the airlines if you got the ticket from them.

Also try these sites...just to compare. Ya never know if you might find a better fare! And search the Chinese airlines directly as they sometimes don't show up on the various discount websites. China Air, Air China, etc.

farecompare.com

mobissimo.com

yapta.com

igougo.com (searches multiple sites for you...kinda cool)

Here's some good articles on getting cheap airfare:

I just got a good price from korean to vancouver then i can book to edmonton via west jet....what your opinion of Korean air lines?

Posted

KAL is a good airline. I haven't flown on them in a few years as I do the BKK->Vegas route. They use to fly direct, but now it's a connection with a loooooong layover.

Korean is usually a good ride...i would pick them over UA or DL...i have found on asian carriers you are much more likely to get an exit row aisle seat than on an American carrier...i suspect because Korean carries more asians and the asian people are shorter and don't put a premiumm on the extra leg room like UA/DL where it can be very hard to get the exit row aisle unless you pay extra or a premium level flyer...and the girls will certainly be MUCH younger, MUCH cuter, MUCH more service oriented than on UA/DL....unless they have changed you can get your miles earned on korean credited to your delta frequent flyer account...

If mileage is a motivation, just beware that most of the Asian carriers have numerous fares that are non-earning or reduced-earning for mileage purposes. Check the website of the mileage program you belong to in order to find out what fare classes earn and how much they earn. If you are considering purchase of a non-earning or reduced-earning fare, it doesn't hurt to ask what the next fare class up is that earns full mileage, and how much it costs. Sometimes it is a huge amount, and sometimes it is minimal.

Unless you are flying on some weird class fare you will get miles on delta from a korean flight BUT you should give them the skymiles number upon checkin or it may be a hassle later. But, as Sam says, always best to reconfirm when you buy a ticket, especially if you buy from a bucket shop, to make asbolutely sure re miles. Here are the eligible codes for coach that earn one mile for each mile flown:

Economy: Y, S, W, I, O** 100% 100% 100% Yes

Discounted Economy: E, L , H, T, K, M 100% 100% 100% Yes

If YEG is your final destination do AC-also AC flies to SEA from YVR and the US customs and immigration are in YVR airport so much easier to clear in Canada.

Check Vayama my personal favourite

Not sure where you pulled the above info from? As for my previous message, as an example when looking at the Skymiles website and checking the section Earning Miles on other Airlines, when looking at the section for Korean Air, if you fly on fare classes A, B, D, G, N, Q, U, V, X for Korean Air (with a KE flight number) you will not get any mileage in Skymiles.

A similar situation likely exists if you are in the Continental or United programs and are considering flying Asiana, ANA, etc. for credit back to CO/UA programs.

Eva air is fine. I round tripped with them two years ago from Seattle to BKK and back. Same as LAX to BKK and back. I recommend the EVA air website for direct booking. Have used it several times and had no problems on my several trips using them.

Unless you are glutten for punishment I would stir clear of any American carrier. I fly EVA from LAX and they are the best, not the same class as Singapore but they have been good to me over the years.

The cut and paste didn't quite paste it all. http://skymilesoffers.delta.com/airline_partners.php#KE

Yes, as i said there are some weird fare classes that do not provide mileage which is why i suggested better double check before booking. As I recall the economy one that usually comes from bucket shops is the Q class fare and doesn't get mileage. But my guess, and only a guess, is that any KE ticket bought from expedia or the KE website will include mileage.I have never seen an A, B, D etc but maybe that is the bucket shop first or biz code? Always best to doublecheck.

That's always been the caveat when transiting through Incheon - the reasonably long layovers.
