September 8, 201114 yr Does anyone know if diesel exhaust fluid is available in Thailand? I am importing a diesel BMW that utilizes 'clean diesel' exhaust emission technology, known as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). SCR requires the use of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). DEF is becoming more common in the USA and Europe as more clean diesel vehicles are produced, to meet with stringent emissions requirements. My research into diesel vehicles regularly imported into Thailand (BMW and Mercedes) did not reveal any information on the use of DEF. Very much appreciate any helpful input, thanks.
September 10, 201114 yr Audi Q7 in Thailand comes with an AdBlue tank. Whether or not Audi has AdBlue liquid to put in the tank is a different story. Shell sells AdBlue elsewhere so if it become necessary here they will sell it here. Mercedes might have it as well. Bring your large wallet! Volvo trucks? If the engine will run OK without it Mai Pen Rai
September 11, 201114 yr Author VocalNeal, I did not consider Audi and I should have since they also sell clean diesel vehicles in the USA. If they sell vehicles in Thailand that require DEF then I'm sure they sell the DEF. If Audi clean diesel vehicles are anything like BMW and presumably Mercedes clean diesels, the ECM is programmed to not let the vehicle operate without DEF. And one cannot fool the system be using other liquids, such as plain water, in place of DEF either. I will check with Audi, thank you very much!

September 12, 201114 yr Your importing the car yourself? Or your buying it from a grey car importer?? If the 1st then DEF will probably be the least of your problems.
September 13, 201114 yr Author I'm with a diplomatic mission, thus am importing it duty free. If it turns out DEF is not available in Thailand, I will somehow arrange to have some shipped in. The amount needed for a full DEF tank is about 5-6 gallons for circa 10-13,000 miles. That's probably a year of driving around the country. I was more concerned about obtaining diesel fuel with Euro 4 standard (50 ppm sulfur content) and happily confirmed that Shell and Bangchak do offer it. The standard for #2 diesel in the USA is 15 ppm sulfur content, but I believe the car engine will not suffer much using diesel with 50 ppm sulfur content. SB
October 4, 201114 yr Hi - I am Karen, and I work for Yara who produce and supply AdBlue (also known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid - DEF). I checked with my export team in Singapore. We can deliver to Thailand but in large quantities - more than you need - but we are happy to speak with your dealer about sourcing this for you. Feel free to reach me about this at karen.a.smith _at_ yara.com. (insert @ in place of _at_).
October 15, 201114 yr Author Karen, thank you for your response and offer to assist. It appears Thailand does not have DEF, but I believe that for the small quantity I need per year I can arrange to have some sent from the USA at reasonable cost. Unit sizes range from 1.5 liter to 2.5 gallon. Best regards, SB
