yes because of the heat distorting the rubber, and to stop people leaving leaflets under the wiper :D

The heat from the glass in the sun can melt the rubber.

In the middle east the temps are 50C during about 4 months in the summer, never seen wipers melted....

Maybe, but they do tend to stick.

In Soviet Eastern European countries they used to remove the wiper arms completely to stop them being nicked. Don't know if they still do.

Edit:- correct typos

Perhaps they can afford silicon wipers. ;) Perhaps 'melt' is not quite correct but soften and lose shape as random mentions with 'distorting'. It's the Thai reasoning for it whether it is correct or not.

Eff1n2ret mentioned sticking and on my older car, cheap wipers, they did that and left black marks from the rubber. My new car, haven't seen it happen though.

Thanks for reminding me I need to go out and lift my wipers :) .

Possibly silicon, is there much difference in price? i have never had any problems here with blades getting distorted on any of my vehicles...

I thought it was an ingenious way to keep people from put flyers under them? ;)

The wipers mold into an arc on a hot screen and so make a noise on the return sweep that drives one up the wall. :)

Chances are modern windscreen wiper material is not rubber, but synthetics or plastic derivatives.

Virtually nothing is pure rubber :). I put Tesco's silicon blades on and they are really good. :)

Ive no idea what my blades are made from but my car bakes in the sunlight from 7.00am till 6.00pm everyday at work, I don't raise the blades and they still perform faultlessly.

More important question-why do off duty cops wear only plain white t-shirts when they go out?

LOL....

Why do Thai kids never change out of their school uniform??? When i was a boy we'd get out of our school uniforms as fast as possible so we could go out and play. Here you see kids in their uniforms at all times of the day AND night AND weekends - very peculiar...

Thanks transam, the gold helmut and flip flops with the plastic bag of fried pork over the handle bars had me confused.

, and to stop people leaving leaflets under the wiper

Nice one.

Another more important question: why do people leave plastic bottles filled with water in front of their car wheels while parking overnight?

Do they.

So dogs don't piss on the wheels.

it is for rain water to flow freely, so it does not trap debris that will stain both the wiper and the windscreen

We have a winner! but, the other day, I saw a dog pissing all over the wheels and didn't care about the water bottles. The soi dogs are getting smarter. hehe
