October 12, 201114 yr Im 6'4" 230lbs Wear an XL shirt and 36/34 pants in the states. Been to a few places and the XL shirts don't fit cause my shoulders are to broad tried on many pairs of 36 waist pants and they are always long enough and fit in the waist but my derriere / butt is to big and it makes moving almost impossible these clothes will be for school so i don't need to look fashionable just proper and neat I just want some cheap clothes that are comfortable and don't look like ive had them since i was 12 about 300-500 baht i really don't want to spend 1000-3000 just to get cloths that fit any opinions would be greatly appreciated
October 12, 201114 yr This is a land of Tailor's and surely you can get made whatever you want at reasonable prices. You dont have to go to the tourist tailor's there are plenty of others around that will make what you need. As a start go Pratunam and look around there. October 12, 201114 yr There used to be a woman on the ground floor of Big C Ratchaprasong ( Pratunam ). The last time I checked she wasn't there and I don't know if she's back. She's been there on and off for the past five years.
October 12, 201114 yr 6th floor MBK xxxxx shop on top of entrance to the shop, walk around, you'll find it.
October 12, 201114 yr Bite the bullet and go to a tailor, look decent in the classroom. Don’t be yet another language teacher dressed in this month's special offer from Big C.
October 13, 201114 yr What sort of shirts are you looking for, short sleeves and collar or Tee shirts? Either way, I would recommend you take a taxi to Bo Bay, they are pretty much the centre of the clothing industry in Thailand and outlying areas like Prattunam buy their stock here. Incidentally, Prattunam is mainly for ladies/girls fashons although you will find some mens clothes. The Bo Bay area is quite large with outdoor stalls as well as indoor clothing centres. Head for Bo bay Tower and just wander, I bought some large shirts in the order of what you describe and I think I paid about 250 Baht each, cant be 100% sure. By the way, like Prattunam, the price on display is per item, but they will usually only sell in 3s or more. I hope this helps, please give it a try! KS
October 13, 201114 yr You can't rely on taxi drivers knowing their way around Bangkok so an idea of the area where Bo Bay is located would be useful
October 13, 201114 yr do tailors even make jeans? tailors can make almost anything to your size if you have the desired fabric and an item of clothing for them to copy...finding all cotton denim might be a challenge... locally they are big on synthetics which aren't nice in the humidity...lotsa folks bring nice fabrics back with them from the west when they visit and have the clothes made here cheaply...
October 13, 201114 yr Im also 6'4 and get my stuff from tailors however I do buy some stuff in OZ at kmart or target which are often cheaper and way better quality than the heat trapping t shirts sold on the street As a matter of interest what are people paying at tailors for 1, shorts 2. short sleeve shirts And who is your tailor and hows the quality? I was using Rajah the tailor in soi4 but he is getting too expensive unless your buying suits and for that his quality is spot on and worth the extra.
October 13, 201114 yr You are quite right Pattayaparent, please try this url, it might help http://www.mtrip.me/en/bangkok/shopping/flea-markets/bobay-market/33931or this one http://www.bobaetower.com/general.php I have not had a problem with BKK taxis finding their way, but what you say is quite right. My appologies for miss spelling Bobae in the first place, I hope I have not sent too many people on a wild goose chase. KS
