It's late October and that usually means time for the Rua Chak Phra event in Southern Thailand and Samui.

Drive carefully as always and don't get upset if a 'Rua' is in front of you slowing you down, it's part of an old tradition and should last until 20th October.

Don't they also have the big fair on that date in Nathon? Is it to coincide with this celebration.?

Yes, its called the Chak Phra Festival. Chak Phra is a uniquely Southern event and great fun.

They also have them displayed at night during the fair, well some of them anyway.

Is this when they have the Candle floating Festival?.... if so, it is well worth while to go see... (in Nanthon,) I went last year.... ). Some amazing art work with flowers too on display...

Perhaps that is another festival?.... but they are all pretty good to go see... :jap:

You are referring to the Loy Kratong festival which is a different festival altogether and is celebrated 10th November this year.

Chak Phra is celebrated and starts the day after Auk Phansa

"Chak Phra Festival literally means the procession of hauling the Buddha images. The original stems from the Buddhist belief that during Phansa the Buddha went up to Heaven to preach to his mother's spirit. The day of his return to Earth is called "Ok Phansa" and the festival marks that date."
