I expect it is one of those special numbers (possibly football related). I have always been obsessed with the 'Golden ratio' 1.618 and its related Fibonacci's - I once had a house designed where every dimension was based on this ratio. This isnt an odd thing to do - the Greeks and Romans did it.

And I still use it a lot in say stockmarket chart analysis. It beats working I can tell you that.
