Hi,

My friend has a student visa that is about expire on November 27. However, we will be travelling to Malaysia on Nov 19. He is going to secure a single re-entry permit.

My question is would he need to file a 90 day extension when we get back on the 21st or would that mean he is allowed to stay for another 90 days?

If he needs to file a 90 day extension would it be okay to file it together with the re-entry permit or should we do it when we get back on 21st?

Thanks a lot!

To answer your questions it would be nice to know if your friend has a valid multiple entry visa or is on an extension of stay.

Also your title speaks of 90 day adress reporting, while you ask about an extension of stay.

Terminology again.

Extension - granted by Thai Immigration inside of Thailand.

Now reading your post, if your friend has an extension from inside of Thailand then getting a re-entry permit will only give him a validity until 27 Nov, no later.

If he has a multi entry visa (from another country) he does not need a re-entry permit, he leaves and comes back before the 27 November and receives another 90 days.

I suggest you actually find out what your friend has, and from where.

Apologies guys for making it confusing. I really appreciate your help but let me clarify it again.

He has a single entry student/ed visa acquired from Laos in September of this year and is about to expire on November 27. This is his first visa. He doesn't have any re-entry permit yet but he will be getting a single re-entry permit. He hasn't filed 90 days notfication yet.

We will be travelling to Malaysia on the Nov 18 and will be back on the 21st of the same month. My questions are, when we return on the 21st will he be allowed to stay for another 90 days or just until the Nov 27? If he would only be allowed on 27, would it be okay to file the re-entry permit and the 90-day notification together prior to our trip to Malaysia or better to file the 90-day notification when we return on the 21st?

Much thanks!

Wiht a re-entry permit he would be allowed in untill the 27th. He can apply for an extension of stay now, with paperwork from the school to get another 90 days. After getting the extension he can get a re-entry permit that would see him in for 90 days after the 27th. Doing all in once will safe an extra trip to immigration..

He doesn't need to do a 90 day report yet, as he is not in country for 90 days. His first extension of stay is regarded as his first 90 day report, 90 days later he has to do his 90 day report. In case one leaves Thailand, the 90 day gets reset and he will have to report 90 days after his return to Thailand.

a 90 ay notification is for people who have a current extension to their visa from within Thailand, and inform the Immigration office of their current address only.

A re-entry permit will give him up to the 27 November only!!!!

I think you mean getting a 90 day extension to his Ed Visa, which he can do upon returning to Thailand or he can get another single entry VISA in Malaysia, he will need the correct Paperwork.
