Introduction of the new-style £50 note

The new-style £50 note, featuring the renowned 18th century business partnership of entrepreneur Matthew Boulton and engineer James Watt, entered circulation on

2 November 2011.

A range of new and enhanced security features have been incorporated into the design of the Boulton and Watt £50 banknote.

The banknote is the first in circulation to be signed by Chris Salmon, who was appointed as the Bank's Executive Director - Banking Services and Chief Cashier in April 2011.

This was posted as a topic last week if I remember correctly, or maybe I read it on the BBC.

Anyhow the old ones are still legal tender and will be until the Bank of England decides on a date to remove them from circulation
