Put the car in for 20K service today ( Mitsubushi Pajero Sports 2011 ), the staff there tell me it needs to go in every 5K for service, that sounds a but frequent to me, anyone have any thoughts on this?

Didn't it come with a Service Record Book . Perhaps they meant Oil Change . You can use a better Oil and lengthen the Mileage.

They actually mention this in the Service book (page 37) (PJS GT 2011)

Normal Use: Every 10000 KM change Oil and oil filter

Heavy Use: Every 5000 KM change Oil and oil filter

Yep, 5000 is often 'recommended', bot you only need to visit them every 10,000KM in order to keep your new car warranty.
