I am a spaniard and I am currently working as a business analyst on It/finance in sunny london ! now the story as goes !

I am planning to ask for a 6 month unpaid leave next year and spend that 6 monthis in BKK I have never had the chance to travel or spend time far away and I am really looking forward to that. The plan is that I will be bringing money with me and live on that.

But I was wondering if there was any realistic chance to make some money teaching spanish. I know most of you lot are english speaking teachers but since you are there on-site may have got a feel of the situation. I would love to do that since it would be an extra source of income but also a chance to socialize and meet people both in the local and the farang community.

Any advise on this or anything else you may think it might be useful would be greatly welcome. Please feel free to be candid on your comments.

:o

Thanks !

My guess, from the posts on this forum and another forum, say "no, pienso que no hay mucho oportunidad, pero es posible." I don't think there's much demand. I almost got a 'teaching gig' in Spanish this year, and you're more qualified than I am.

You would expect to be teaching Asians, such as Thais, who speak enough of a common language with you (such as English), unless you're such a great teacher of foreign language that you can do it all in espanol.

Que dios bendigate. I'd be surprised if you could survive, but you never know. For example, I'm sitting next to a German who's fluent in Spanish (perhaps more than I am), who said there was a request for a teacher to Spanish boys, but you had to teach Spanish in English!

I'd like to learn Spanish... but I live in the south of Thailand. You could always be a travelling teacher, moving about on a rotational basis which gives you a chance to see the country outside of Bangkok also. :o

Spanish? Not so much. Catalan? Yes! Big, big market for native Catalan speakers.

Can't you just hear the little Thai kids now...

HOLA !!!

QUE TAL ANDAS...

Teaching spanish in thailand...it never occurred to me... :D

Flamenco...hmmmmm... :D ?

Actually that's not such a silly idea Glauka. Latin dance classes are very popular on Phuket and no doubt in Bangkok and other places also. Am sure there'd be a market for flamenco, signora! :o

erm ,,

born and bred in the celtic north-western spain (asturias ) well I am not much of dancer :-P, pity I do not speak catalan either. I can do asturian (bable) but don't think there will be any demand for that in any way shape or form ,,,

I already taught some spanish in english , do a few hours a week after my full time job ... and wondered if the same thing could be arranged when I am over there sort of thing ... and it looks it will be hard but may be not completely impossible ,,

Thanks to all !
