Hackintosh Advice Needed

Featured Replies

First I have to admit this is still a bit new to me, a friend gave me a USB thumb drive that he had installed a copy of ... ASUSEeePC OSX86 hackintosh , this is what the folders like ...

when it boots up it says this ....

I can plug the USB thumb drive it into my PC and boot from it , and it works just fine .

The USB is 8 GB in size

So I hope some one can answer my following questions

Question 1

I wanted to have more have more than 8 GB space to enable me to install a few more apps so I just copied the whole USB thumb drive over to a new portable 160GB USB drive .

For some reason all thought Ive copied over the same folders from the 8GB USB thumb drive to the new portable 160GB USB drive, the new drive will not boot , it only shows a black screen with a white flashing ( - ) in the top Left hand corner of the screen and just will not go any further .

I just thought coping the whole USB thumb drive would be ok

So what am I missing What am I doing wrong ?

Question 2

The 8GB USB thumb drive works very well on my PC , So I thought I would give it a go and try to install a hackintosh build directly onto the PC's internal HDD ( formatted to Mac OS Extended ( Journaled ).

No matter which version I tried nothing would work on my PC . so the question is this , if I can run a Hackintosh OSX86 build from a USB thumb drive , and it works well , why wont any of the Hackintosh OSX86 builds that I try to install directly onto the PC's internal HDD , work ?

any advice welcome :jap:

* I can't ask my friend who gave me the USB thumb drive for advice , as sadly he recently passed away .

When you put your 8gb drive into your pc the first time did the pc use and take the OS X drivers, I have heard this is how it works as a hack.

As I said I have heard, repeat, heard how it works.

Thanks for the advice,

The PC only has an internal HDD with Windows XP on it .

I first plug in the USB thumb drive into the PC , then set the PC's BIOS to boot from the USB thumb drive and the PC then starts up , using the OSX86 system .

Well, you thoughts are incorrect, just as you can't just copy all the files of a Windows system disk to a flash or external drive and expect it to boot. Just like Windows, it has to be installed on the drive from a Mac OSX Install disk. Note: there are different disk images for different motherboards and hardware devices. So there is not one install disk that fits all.

The main reason is because the format of the partition is different.

Unfortunately, the techniques can not be discussed on this Forum because it is illegal, and it will require some geek knowledge. However if you want to attempt this, do a Google search for 'hackintosh external drive install'.

I cannot see anything that suggests illegality.

Except Apples EULA states it can only be installed on Apple branded hardware whistling.gif

It doesn't sound like you have an install usb copy but a "live" usb. You'll need to grab an install image either retail or easier for noobs a hacked install like iAktos.

Google tonymacx86 and insanelymac to start off.
