TallGuyJohninBKK
Taipan hotel is having a Christmas Buffet on the 24th, think 1300baht per person 6 to 10pm If you book via Thai City Deals you can buy a voucher for this for 650 Baht http://thaicitydeals...n-hotel,-suk-23 Hmmm... It seems there are two different voucher offers going on re the Tai Pan Hotel for Christmas.... A Christmas EVE (Dec. 24) DINNER Buffet (6-10 pm) on offer for 650 baht with advance voucher purchase. http://thaicitydeals.com/bangkok/deal/50-off-international-christmas-eve-dinner-buffet-at-pan-kitchen-taipan-hotel,-suk-23 A Christmas DAY LUNCH Buffet (11:30 am to 2 pm) on offer for 450 baht with advance voucher purchase.... http://thaicitydeals.com/bangkok/deal/55-off-christmas-day-lunch-buffet-at-pan-kitchen-taipan-hotel,-suk-23 All I know is, their regular non-holiday lunch buffet runs about 200 baht per person regular price (no turkey, of course), and is one of the better value meal deals in BKK. Nothing fancy...pretty much a coffee shop type setting. But a decent, simple buffet for a very good price. Never tried their holiday offering, as yet. TallGuyJohninBKK
The BKK Post has been running daily special holiday sections including info on Christmas and New Years Eve dinners and such for the past two weeks or so... And I was browsing thru the online version of those sections, which have been posted as PDF files on their website. As you might imagine, the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner listings there are heavily weighted toward the higher end hotels. This isn't a scientific analysis...but by rough figuring, I'd say the averages seem to be running in the 1500 to 2000 baht range per adult at the various mid range hotels, up to around the 3000 baht range per adult at the upper end hotels... and even higher at some of them. Dunno about others.... but regardless of the size of my wallet, at $100 U.S. per adult for a Christmas dinner, I'd say the turkeys aren't the old ones getting stuffed. TallGuyJohninBKK
It's nice to see someone running an establishment here taking that view.... Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's rather the exception than the rule... You might think, a pub would have more flexibility on the food pricing than the traditional restaurant, because it's business is more weighted toward drink sales... But what excuse the hotels here have for their Christmas pricing....I haven't a clue... Kind of forgetting what Christmas was all about in the first place... Ooops... wrong country for that... TallGuyJohninBKK
Does anyone know if you have to pre book at The Londoner or any other pubs? TallGuyJohninBKK
Not sure how this list was put together, but it's a pretty amazingly comprehensive summary of the Christmas buffets and dinners being offered by the various hotel-restaurants throughout Bangkok... http://www.bangkokshoppinggirl.com/2011/12/christmas-buffets-in-bangkok-december.html It's a bad sign when the Christmas Eve and Day Dinner buffets at the Holiday Inn Ploenchit's Cafe G are going for 700 and 1000 baht per adult, respectively. Their normal dinner buffet is under 300 baht. This list is missing all of the pub offerings, however.

I like the way you think and hope that you do well, but I do not blame some restaurants that go to a lot of expense and effort for charging more for a special meal. I do think that some places are charging ridiculous prices, but I just avoid them and go somewhere within my budget. There are plenty of places charging reasonable amounts for good food out there. theoldgit
So John, it seems like The Londoner are charging a little over double the price of their normal Sunday Roast, it's pitty, I like there, I hoped they might be above that. Another case of we will charge you more because we can and almost everyone else is doing the same.

But The Londoner's price above that I posted is 1400 baht plus VAT for a SET Christmas dinner meal.... whereas their normal Sunday roast buffet (vs. set plate) is something like 470 baht.... By my reckoning, getting darned close to triple the normal price, and not for the same offering. Oddly, on The Londoner's website, they seem to show on their calendar plans for offering their Sunday roast on Sunday the 25th.... But I suspect that's some kind of error. http://www.the-londo...com/events.aspx BTW, The Londoner's Facebook page includes the following detail re their Christmas Day menu.... so it pretty clearly is replacing their regular buffet. Sunday, December 25, 2011 at 12:00 pm until Monday, December 26, 2011 at 1:00 am We now have live entertainment from 12 - 11pm. Including the Big Boy band, A violinist and also a top Dj.
