Guys ... I want to get repainted my wife’s old Mazda Lantis that step-daughter has misused for a number of years.

Can anyone suggest a company in Bangkok or Nonthaburi area that can do a reasonable job for a fair price. I do want it to shine and I guess a couple of clear coats on top of the paint.

Can anyone advise where, should I rule out a garage that doesn’t have an oven, do paint prices vary as I guess that is a big part of the cost and what is a ball part figure? thanks

The lantis is a nice car i prefer it to the astina you have the 2.0 or 1.8? anyways as the price of the car has pretty much bottomed out on value id try to keep the ammount of money i put into it as low as possible in this case, if the damage is slight with mainly paint blemishes and scratches id sand it down, apply filler and primer, then spray on a new coat with aircompressor at home....as you can see the DIY is easy so you should be able to find a paint shop on side of road easily...i havent seen the extent of the damage if your talking about a whole repaint job then it could be 30k pending how many coats and whether there is a need to address rust. Price will vary from they are doing a good job and removing the pannels and interiors or just doing those cheapie jobs where they tape newspaper on the windows and spray from a can then laquer it up to hide the truth long enough for you to drive off! Im not from that area so cant advise locations but i would look for a good place not some hole in the wall where your paint will resemble a reptiles scales in as little as 3 months.

If you are without a recommendation for a local shop, then i would look at the manner in which they are addressing customer cars already in there....just like a restraunt with not many customers is a bad sign, seeing newspaper taped up for a major paint job or piles of laquer spray cans in a corner is a red flag. Drive to different shops and get an estimate, then underquote this to the next shop slightly to see if they will meet for this lower price, this is what i do even when looking for a new battery, saves me 500 baht sometimes and it just took me a couple clicks down the road and a u turn back up to the best value shop.

Sorry i cant recommend any place in Bangkok but what i would suggest you do if you are looking for a good quality job is to visit a couple of insurance brokers and ask them who they would hire for insurance work.

Don't forget a <deleted> paint job decreases the value of a vehicle.

Look on this page - there are a few paint shops advertised here, with photos: http://rcw.ms/forum/forumdisplay.php/5

Thanks to you all for the advice and info.

Of course it’s not a viable proposition, my wife bought the car new in 1996, when I married her a few years later the car paintwork looked so good that it worried me when I washed the car!

Whilst we lived in the UK, her daughter learnt to drive and also knocked up another 100000+ Kms and some since ...think she gets lost in Bangkok! It’s been gassed now for a few years and we changed the engine/gearbox unit some few months ago now at 220000kms. It's life was shortened not only by LPG but also got boiled a couple of times ... step-daughter now knows to stop when that little needle points to the H.

It is still a nice car to drive, I borrowed it to go to Kanchanaburi a couple of weeks ago, mine was unavailable ‘packed in’ level six of a condo car part, and it was pretty cheap motoring. So I just want to tidy it up for her, as most panels have little dents or scratches it’s a full job or nothing. Its never had much of a bump so I guess that she will keep the car for some while yet.

I did clay and polish the car a while back and must admit that the deep shine is still there. So I don’t want a cheap job, just want to pay a fair price for a good job. Its never had much of a bump so I guess that she will keep the car for some while yet.

thanks

Good luck with that - the lantis is a nice looking car - and the large engined one went well. I think a good paint job could run 30-40 K, best to get your wife/daughter to go in for a quote - keep the farang face out of the way lol. At least it's much cheaper than a paint job in the west - I was quoted 60000 baht for a 2pack job on a mini lol. Suffice to say I went with a basic white for 500 dollars:)

If you keep the same colour it will also be cheaper - they can mask up around doors and not have to strip out parts of the interior to paint all of it - but as you can see in those websites they can also put out engines and do a complete job.
