Port Overload

Featured Replies

My keyboard stopped working so I bought new one which also doesn't work. Sometimes it works for a minute after start up.

I noticed a message in start up saying 'port overload'. I only have my printer, mouse. I tried with only the mouse and keyboard but still can't get it to work. I tried 3 keyboards and it can't recognise any.

Any suggestion as what to do? Thanks.

Start troubleshooting. First off, assuming you're on a Windows O/S, using your mouse after boot-up, go into the device-manager and right-click on your computer's name, then click on 'scan for hardware changes'. Hopefully a driver will be loaded onto the keyboard.

Are you just using one USB Port? Try using more than one USB port if you have more than one on your laptop/PC. Or if you have only one USB buy a cheap 300BHT 4 port powered USB Hub. Note must have ext power supply not source power from USB port or you still have same issue.

Also have you tried with just mouse pluged in. Then with keyboard and mouse than the printer if you can see which device is causing the issue ie. which is drawing all the power from USB port.

Thanks for the replies.I did buy a USB hub but it doesn't have a power source.

I solved the problem by buying an adaptor to make the keyboad go into the round port rather than the USB ones.
