People have privacy delusions about the Internet. They seem to think that just because they don’t sign their real name to a site that no one can see what they’ve been doing on it. Oh dear. So dumb, so wrong. The latest example of what you do on the Internet is no where near as “private” as you think it is comes from a new Russian site, YouHaveDownloaded. This site claims to track 20 percent of all public BitTorrent downloads… and tell the world who they’ve found downloading what. So, that final episode of Dexter? The DVD rip of Cowboys & Aliens? That copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare? And, that illicit video of Smoking Hot Grannies that you really, really don’t want to talk about? Yeah, your permanent record of what you’ve been downloading off BitTorrent sites may all be available for the amusement of your friends, neighbors, and, oh yes, the copyright owners. However, interesting to see what the staff has been downloading - Korean Couple in Many Positions.wmv. At the top summary they tell you where you are located. Just click on the Peers button a the bottom of the screen............. The anti torrent brigade can easily log that info then trace back to your ISP or seedbox. Who's to say it wasn't your Grandma who came over and was using your computer? Suppose you get a virus on your computer and someone uses your computer to as a proxy to download torrents... I mean i'm sure you could still get cut off by your ISP given any of the above defenses, but I'd imagine it would be very hard to bring legal action. I tried it through my company ISP and it lists downloads, including one I downloaded and I assume the rest are some co-workers. Correct, my reference to a seedbox was meant to address the primary topic of this thread, the website the OP references, which of course cannot correlate IP addresses through an ISP, seedbox and another ISP. If someone wanted to to go through the first ISP, the seedbox (shared among many users and dynamic IPs) then track that through to an FTP session and another ISP, then yes, they could. Pib Posted December 13, 2011 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Whether the authorities prove or don't prove it was you or your visiting grandmother downloading the torrent/copy-righted file, they can still put you through hell in terms of legal activities/costs in reaching the guilty or not-guilty end result. Remember that there is a large amount of porn distributed from Russia along with virus infections and Trojan horse programmes. This is Thailand and it would be no different than a speed camera getting your license plate number. It's your car and you pay the ticket regardless of who was driving the car.
