Topic Moved...Again!

Can't help you on the location Drum, but if your son has a stutter then I wouldn't worry about it. Even though that's easy to say. My daughter stuttered and I was quite concerned. So I Googled the net and found some reassuring facts. All proved correct. She grew out of her stutter by the age of 4. Some children will take longer. I hope that is of help ? Good luck. http://www.med.umich.edu/yourchild/topics/speech.htm

I think the best option in that part of the country is the Khon Kaen University Hospital, it is a major teaching hospital which also serves as a referral point for the NE and has comprehensive pediatric services. .

Also called Srinikarin Hospital khon kaen. Tel. 0 4324 2331-44

thanks for the reply's, would these contacts be free health care for local thai's

the family are not so well off,and no private health care,

KKU (Srinakarin) is a government hospital and thus free for Thais who are covered by either Thai Soc Security or the universal health care scheme ("gold card" formerly called "30 baht scheme").Pretty much everyone is, or should be.

However they may need to get a referral from their provincial hospital first in order to qualify.

Suggest they call KKU Hospital first and locate the appropriate department and ask if they need a letter of referrral or can just come directly.

Getting a referral if in fact a speech therapist is needed should not be hard as the provincial hospital will not have this service.

Sometimes what appear to be speech problems are actually due to a hearing problem or mental developmental problem in which case a different type of specialist would be more appropriate. In addition to providing referral so that services can be accessed under the free scheme, being seen first at the provincial hospital increases the chance of being referred to the right type of professional.
