Plenty of my friends used to be amateurs (OH2xx), but after invention of IRC the hobby faded out.

@oilinki - there are about 5 million radio 'hams' worldwide.

Thailand ranks quite high on the list of % of the population who are radio hams, as does Japan.

I have many friends throughout the world with whom I can chat via radio, or send them an email or text message if the radio propagation is bad
