Where To Get Led Lights In Bangkok?

Have around 70 to 80 x 50 Watt Halogens in my condo and I just can't see why I should waste so much in electricity having hundreds of Watts running through the line while a couple of lights are on.

I went to Home Pro they only have 4.5W LED from OSRAM for 880 Baht the piece but only warm yellowish lights. And for around 1100 Baht for the dimmable ones. Both state they compare to 20W Halogens, so a bit dark, also they are warm light LED's but I am looking either for the cold lights or natural light LED's.

Went to Central Chitlom and found 3W LED's for 690 Baht (LAMPTAN, natural light ones) stating they compare to 35W Halogens. Bought 5 pieces and changed the ones in the kitchen. The light is ok for the kitchen but maybe a bit to dark for the living room. They also had the 4.5 Osrams same like from Home Pro but the price was 1,100 Baht instead 880 like Home Pro. They also had some other ones but price was 2,000 Baht!!!

So I am actually looking to something like that:

see attached picture

up to around 400 Lumen

- well useable for all ceilings

- 120° ancle

- only around. 5W

- 70x 3528 SMD LEDs

- for 12V AC/DC

- GU 5.3 / MR16

- light color ca. 6000 Kelvin (pure-white)

- ØxL 50x52mm

- not dimmable

or this one:

see picture

12V AC/DC

  • color: pure-white
  • Temperature: ca. 5500-6500°K
  • ancle: ca. 45°
  • ca. 300lm
  • ca. 6W
  • LED-Typ: 3 pieces 2W Highpower LEDs
  • Aluminium
  • 50mm
  • Socket: MR16 / GU5,3
  • not dimmable

or different ones with around 5 to 7 Watt or around 300 to 500 Lumens,

Of ocurse I would like to spend as less as possible, those LED's are extremly expensive.

So if anyone can recommend me a place where I can find good and cheap LED's to exchange them with my numberous Halogens then I would be very happy.

Thanks a lot

Sorry I can't help you with your search. The mindset of energy saving and long-term economy is not there yet in Thailand (although if you get a bag in Fabric rather than in plastic then you can "save the world"... or so it seems).

I'm a bit curious though about the fact that you are looking for cold or natural light. In my opinion, they are mostly for "productive" environments. I'd use natural in a kitchen and a home office, and probably would not get any cold at all. I find them really too bleak and slightly "depressing" with an "old hospital" feeling.

wow that is depressing wacko.png (no not the cold lights) but that no one here has any info where to get LED lights. I have to agree that energy saving has not yet arrived in Thailand, what a pity. blink.png But nonetheless I am still very interested to find a place to buy LED's in quantity and in the right Watts.

Whilst LEDs are available here the choice is limited and the price high.

Have a look at Satistronics.com or Satisled.com, both are in China and ship to Thailand by EMS. They have a large selection of LEDs in all colours, shapes and sizes.

They accept payment via PayPal.

I've never paid any duty on stuff from them (free trade agreement maybe), so apart from the 2 Baht delivery fee my condo charges there's no scary numbers.

D2U is located on Vibhavadi Rd. http://www.ledthai.net/

They actually look interesting.

Sadly the website has no prices. Do I really want to go to the trouble of finding the place and then have to ask the price of everything? May take a ride down tomorrow for a gander.

thanks all for your posts, had a look at the two Chinese Websites but could not find any of the LED's I was looking at. Then I went today to D2U and found the place right away. They are still constructing the building, but they do have a small showroom downstairs and quite some LED samples. They did not have bigger MR16 LED's then 4 Watts, they had also some nice 3 Watts similar to the ones I have seen in Central and Homepro. The 4 Watts seemed to be ok so I bought 5 pieces as sample to see if they would give enough light. Asking price was 950 Baht, I was a bit schocked. I told them it is much to expensive. They gave me a discount for 855 Baht. I still felt it is too expensive. I also brought a printout of a 4 Watt LED light with a price in Euro comparing to around 720 Baht a piece. So I told them and showed it to them, Then they reduced the price to 750 Baht a piece. So I took the 5 pieces for testing. They also give 1 year warranty.

But when I installed them I saw that the ancle was very low, I actually saw that already in the shop, They said the 3 Watts have a 60 degrees ancle and the 4 Watts the same, but you could already see in the shop that the 4 Watts had a smaller ancle. So anyway installed in the room the lights were quite ok but the ancle to small so they were actually really only small spot lights, So not really what I was looking for.

I did a few pictures in the shop with my cell, if anyone is interested.

Thanks for that ^^^, if I get a minute I'll nip down there next week.

Meanwhile, if you find the emission angle too tight try removing the lens from the front of the unit. The LEDs themselves have an emission angle of about 120o, a home made diffuser could be your solution.

In my experience the illumination levels claimed for LEDs are optimistic to say the least, my experiences suggest that you will get about the same illumination as a similarly rated CFL lamp, I've never been a lover of halogens so I can't really compare with them.

I'm running 9W of unfocussed LED in a fitting in my bathroom, perfect light levels. The 2 x 30W unfocussed fittings in my lounge (converted circular fluorescent fittings) are rather too bright, but since LEDs dim without colour change (if you have dimming controllers) it's not really an issue.
