Abhisit hopes implicated officials not covering up for bosses

The 10 officials suspected of being involved in irregularities related to flood-relief supplies should step forward and tell the truth instead of taking the fall for their political overseers, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said yesterday.

"Everything hinges on evidence and it remains to be seen whether the politicians will cast the officials adrift and make them take the blame," he said.

Abhisit said independent investigation was needed to unmask the political masterminds, otherwise only officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation would be implicated.

He said he suspected that some officials were covering up for their bosses, adding that foul play was not just limited to flood-relief supplies, but also involved the government scheme of providing discount coupons for electrical appliances to flood victims.

He was commenting on reports that the Department of Special Investigation had named 10 officials as suspects in connection with the purchase of flood relief supplies at inflated prices.

Democrat MP Vilas Chanpitaksa said the DSI report came up with similar findings to those of the House committee on anti-corruption.

Vilas said he had found the relief supplier, Ua Thanapat, was a shell company set up to cover up bogus deals. In one transaction, officials took delivery of 40,000 sets of relief supplies but in reality only 9,600 sets were delivered, he said, voicing suspicion about inflated prices as well as false delivery records.

He said he did not believe that low-ranking officials could pull off such a scam without the backing of their superiors who might, in turn, work for a main political boss.

Perhaps Abhisit would be better applying his muck raking skills to the Klongs of Bangkok. No wonder he was accused of "only being good at talking"

(incidentally he responded to this affront to his person by a woman by saying this in his Facebook Page -"This person who accuses me - How dare she!". What a man.............)

Wonderful administration that can see corruption possibilities during a natural calamity.

Maybe you are only good at defending the people you adore. So you think there was no corruption?

And what does the present PM do.........................nothing, claims she knows nothing, it's inconclusive, all with the rule of law, haven't spoke to him/her yet, etc etc etc etc When they actually make a decision, it then gets put back for a few more months, or does a complete u turn.

I not particularity a fan of the Democrats, but when will people actually wake up to this current charade?

I`ve always thought of Abhisit as a pretty decent politician. Careful and making no great promises that he has no chance of fulfilling but more a desire to follow a safe road taking everybody with him. Patience and stability offer more chance of building an inclusive society than throw cash at people, rock `n` roll politics.

Adore is not a word I would use especially when I have mentioned no names other than Abhisit - and adore is not a word I would apply to him so your first question makes no sense.

As for your second question it appears that there was, otherwise the DSI would not have named 10 Ministry of Disaster mitigation officials as suspects. But no, Abhisit doesn't believe the DSI this time and he's looking to pin the blame further up the tree. If he had only applied such a questioning mind on corruption when in office he may have been still in post.

Where is it said that Abhisit doesn't believe the DSI?

All it says is that he hopes those that have been implicated by the DSI aren't protecting others.

A few terms for you to mull; supervision, responsibility, "the buck stops here" (not referring to the proceeds of corruption).

He didn't believe the the DSI when they had the temerity to suggest that the security forces were involved in causing the deaths of some of the original 13 killings investigated

I see you have no defence for your beloved masers so you attack the messenger.

I am not a big fan of Abhist but facts are facts and he is the best person for the job of Prime Minister in Thailand. If Abhist had had the support of the people that Thaksin and his clone do The Thai's would have a much better life with a hope for a better future. Unfortunately he did not and the PT's military arm made one big interruption in the management of the country.

For those who are clueless and want to say why this why that the answer is simple he did not have the support.

What's that got to do with "Abhisit doesn't believe the DSI this time"? Nothing ... you're just trolling.

If it is not this time by definition it must be some other time. I mentioned the other time.

So him not believing the DSI has got nothing to do with this? You just wanted to bring the 2010 protests into the discussion.

It's a sign of how he blows with the wind - whatever suits his agenda. And lets face it if Buchholz can bring Shipping Moo into a thread entitled "Experts threaten walkout on Flood Prevention Schemes" without a murmur from the Brethren you've got to admit you're on thin ice!

It's not that you brought this into this thread, it's just that you started off claiming something, and when questioned on it, you went off onto something else.

But I don't expect to see you complaining about Buchholz bringing unrelated things into threads anymore.

When one is blinded by facts that do not make their leaders look good they have no choice but to try to attack the messenger and use misdirection.

The very nature of his week attempts speaks to the fact that he believes the allegations to be true.

And how do you come to that conclusion. Abhisit is told that the DSI after their investigation have 10 suspect officials in the Disaster Mitigation department. No he says that can't be true there has to be a Mr or Mrs Big behind this look further. That implies that their investigation has not been good enough and he disagrees with their findings, ergo he doesn't believe in what the DSI has found. It is that simple. Anybody confused over my posts?

No. He doesn't say "That's not true". He says "I hope they're not protecting their bosses." Which is nothing like "I don't believe the DSI 'this time'."
