What are things I can do daily or weekly ? I want to be with other students to hang out .

Any English teaching opportunities for a 16 year old?

Any student hang outs ?

Ahh what to do in this long time ?

Pay no attention to any of the recommendations you get here. 95% of them will not serve you very well.

Good luck in Bangkok!

Agree ... just about everyone here is much older (and grumpier) but you may get a few responses from some nice posters who have sons or daughters your age.

You are very very lucky to get to explore a wonderful country and its people.

Start with the basics, learn about the food http://www.eatingthaifood.com/

You will be malling, eating, meeting lots and lots of new friends, learn the culture as much as you can and make the absolute most of it. Pay special attention to the trends (fashion, jewellery etc) when you are back home you will see the trend a year or so later so buy lots.

Before you leave pick up a magic jack and make sure your skype is working with an international call plan (you can call the USA unlimited with some of the plans, and your parents can call your call) texting home will eat your allowance super fast.

I don't think there are any teaching positions available and I am sure others on the forum will warn you about working (work permit), but perhaps some of the expats can tell you where their kids hang out on weekends, probably MBK/Siam/Centralworld.

Enjoy......

Sightseeing: go down to Saphan Taksin, get a days-ticket for the boat (should be 120 or 150 THB) and go upriver to see some sights. Flowermarket, Grand Palace & Wat Po, Wat Arun are accessible from the water and will give you a "basic" sightseeing program.

going out: I guess at 16, I would rather NOT go to Patpong or Nana or Soi Cowboy...the risk of loosing A LOT of money is too big ( I know what I am talking about). For evenings fun, go to Khao Sarn Road.

Another nice and very decent spot is Soi Rangnam (BTS Victory Monument). I can highly recommend the small restaurants (my favorite : Tida Isan) on the lower end of the road as well as some nice (thai) bars and pubs on the upper end.

Generally it will be a good idea, to make friends with some locals or farang that have stayed here longer. Usually everbody has their own secret advice.

Always fun on a saturday: go to MBK! Some shopping, some eating, maybe a movie.

Also good for a weekend with little money: the parks. There is a nice, small one, down by the river at Rama 3 Road, just below the Rama 9 bridge, opposite the Kasikorn Bank Building. Get a mat to sit on, buy some food from the vendors, bring a book and relax!

Learn about food, Culture and Thai language as much as you can as it will be really helpful for the time u gonna spend here and also for ur future if u plan to stick to Thailand.

Be Safe that the most Importan tthing for you to do in Thailand. Do not get carried away by charming thai-girls and all sorts of parties, coz things in Thailand can get Ugly at anytime when it comes to Paties and Girls (not to mention their so called Bfs).

Rest Figure youself out and DO BRING YOUR BRAINS AND USE THEM.....NOT YOUR *******

first let down- are you not USAer and always worried about ''legel'' and drinking age and all that?

Well -to start. THAI Disco's. bars and the like DO have age controls-quite strict and set out of the entry-ID will be needed, and its over 21!=yes, twenty one.

Point 2: even for youngies like you there are still those old-fashioned things named BOOKS-notably guidebooks-just borrow one from your library and do that old-fashioned, thing, reading. I hope they still teach that at todays schools.

That parrotting about brains is soooooooo boring and forgets the essential thing: that you have to train brains by growing up and making many mistakes and learning from them. IMHO esp. USAers seem to be born with that lovingly, but deceiting complete ignorance about the fact that other countries may even have other customs-and not even have US$ to pay with!

Where are you staying in BKK? I know a number of college aged folks that don't always go drink. Tonight they went over and did go-cart racing.
