I have been told my Yellow Tambien Baan can not be used as certification of residence when buying a motorbike or car. Also, I was told the Land Transport Office will not accept a Yellow Tambien Baan when applying for a drivers license. Can anyone with recent experience verify this? I reside in Bangkok and have a Non-O visa (based on marriage to a Thai.)

I used my yellow book to buy my car and get a driving license here in Bangkok....worked great....I'm on a Non-OA (retirement visa/extension of stay). Seems a yellow book overcomes the fears that you are just passing through, a tourist for a few weeks/months, etc. When ever I'm dealing with some Thai govt agency I always submit a copy of my yellow book, whether the agency required/requested such paperwork or not....guess I just want to point out to them I live here and that my residence in Thailand is officially recognized by my district/khet office via the yellow book.

Thanks to all for the recent information.

I have used my yellow book for both vehicle purchase and Thai DL in Udon.

Who was giving you bum information? Someone who doesn't have a yellow book maybe?

Who is telling you this?

I used it as proof of address (instead of embassy letter) to get 2 1 year licences and 1 5 year driving licence

Used it to buy a new Toyota. 1 New motorbike in my name and finally for the transfer of a second hand truck.

Alao they love it at the embassy when i use it as supporting documentation for my multiple NON IMM O VISA

Who told you as a previous poster said.... The MIL? ...Someone who does not have one?....Barstool banter?
