Nalinee wants a chance to prove herself

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- PM's Office Minister Nalinee Taveesin yesterday called on her critics to give her a chance to prove herself in public service.

"I have a master's and a PhD from the United States, in addition to extensive international experience. I would like to be given an opportunity to serve the country," she said.

Nalinee said criticism should be based on the facts pertaining to her links to Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe. Denying allegations that she was involved in arms trading, she said she never thought she would become a government's lightning rod.

She refused to reply to a question related to her involvement in investment deals in Africa that are linked to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and also kept silent when challenged to apply for a US visa to prove that she is not blacklisted as claimed.

Of course she refused to reply. Taking a page straight out of PM Yingluck's play book. The old saying comes to mind "silence implies consent".

She should just borrow one of Thaksin's buzzers

Another commonality between both

"I have a master's and a PhD from the United States"

Wonderful.

Is that supposed to be some guarantee for future excellent performance by a Thai politician?

Just look how much that benefited Thailand earlier. bah.gif

If she wants "a chance to prove herself", start with being open and honest with full disclosure.

Nalinee said criticism should be based on the facts pertaining to her links to Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.

But her US-Treasury listing was surely based upon her alleged business-dealings with Mrs Grace Mugabe and others, not with her husband Robert Mugabe,

Why does new-Minister Nalinee continue to avoid this point, it only supports the no-doubt-false impression, that she has had business-links as-alleged by the US ? A clear statement is all that's required, but Nalinee continues to appear to 'duck and dive', instead.

She refused to reply to a question related to her involvement in investment deals in Africa that are linked to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra

Surely not because there is something else, apart from her "social-relations" with the Mugabes, which she is ashamed-of and wishes to keep quiet ? But perhaps this might explain why Thaksin PM-Yingluck chose her to join the Cabinet.

The whole affair looks murkier by-the-day. It is unlikely to just go away. cool.png

She has already proven herself amoral and venal - should fit in perftectly with the rest of the PTP criminal consortium.

A more perceptive person might realise that by making his point in this way he not only fails to convince with his main proposition but loses the right to be taken seriously.

If you object to the term "criminal consortium" perhaps you could suggest something more appropriate for a group with their leader convicted of corruption and facing quite a few other charges including terrorism, a puppet leader under investigation for perjury, her deputy who clearly conspired to have charges dropped for his murderous offspring and a history of unconvicted shady dealings, 12 other preferentially treated members facing criminal charges including terrorism, etc, etc, etc.........

Oh that's right, you call them the government.......how perceptive of you.

Let's be honest about this. The whole Nalinee episode shows the Thaksin machine at its worst. It beggars belief that Nalinnee should have been appointed in the first place, and it is an eminently reasonable assumption that her appointment is linked to Thaksin's African business interests.Given the American blacklist she should not even have been considered and her overseas degrees and experience (if true) are neither here nor there.

We don't agree often, but in this case you are spot on.

She has proved herself already:

Ethically Challenged even by Thailand standards.

Yes P. Nalinee, go apply for a a USA visa, and show us all what they give you back.

OzMick observations seems pretty spot on to me..... It will be fascinating to me when a new government takes over some time in the future, and the peccadilloes of this government come fully to light.

Didn't somebody else go to the US and return with a Master's degree and a Doctorate? You know who I mean. Should we regard US educational qualifications in the same light of those of Thailand?

The attempt to blame this solely on Thaksin is an easy way of avoiding the reality. IMO the woman's appointment was a demonstration of the Thai mindset. Yes, it was an incredibly foolish appointment by the government, but I think that this could have just as easily been a Democrat or any other political party decision. Making money and position trumps social responsibility. The sad part of this is that if one puts politics to the side, the vast majority of Thais probably don't care and see nothing wrong with the appointment. Don't believe me? Ask your friends and family what they think. Forget about the US sanctions when you mention the issue, but simply point out her dealings with Mugabe. I doubt most Thais know where Zimbabwe is, let alone know what a Mugabe is.

What this episode does do however, is push that wedge between the social activist members of PTP and the Thaksin loyalists even deeper. The most vociferous of the minister's critics come from the social activist segment of PTP. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Mr. Thaksin will be undone by the people that so many of you think are his supporters.

Well said sir, not often I agree with your sentiments and I don't agree 100% with your above post, however your closing paragraph is right on target,,

Thaksin needs to remember as do his acolytes,

"One needs a long spoon to sup with the devil."

Not until the day that Thaksin has no money left in the piggy bank with which to control this social activist segment you speak of, which may be made up of individuals holding a more principled view than others in their midst, but who are still just as easily bought on side by the lure of money and power that Thaksin can offer them.

Principled yes, but not that principled. Critical of Thaksin yes, but not that critical. They know what side their bread is buttered on.

Is that a different way of saying "Oops, I am in over my head here"?

So it is guilty until proven innocent.

How typical.

Not necessarily guilty, but AFAIK Nalinee has yet to make a clear denial, of what the US-Treasury have accused her of ? Which is of business-dealings with Mrs Mugabe, aot her husband, and also with others in powerful positions in the Zimbabwean regime.

If she's innocent, why doesn't she issue a detailed denial, and clear the matter up, surely not because her version of the facts might be easily disproved ?

Please share some names, and is there a specific leader of this group? . I (and I'm sure many othere TV members) would be interested to read what they have said , what their beliefs are, what their objectives are, and what specific policies they have to gain short-term and long-term change.

How is she going to "prove" herself when she's already on the blacklist of Thailand's largest trading partner and the world's most important geopolitical power? Is she going to prove herself with her track record of cutting deals with criminal regimes?

This is such a mysterious statement that it deserves further analysis.

Still waiting 'kid, where's your answers, don't forget that yesterday you tried to insist that other posters supply details and facts to support their claims.

So I'll wider the scope, can any tv members please supply any specific details about "....the social activist members of PTP...." (and please dont say jatuporn).
