Can I get by bus to Hua Hin from PTT?

Or do I have to go to Bangkok

Ekkamai station to get the bus

and no doubt repeat the process

to get back to patters? Cheers.

All I knows is Bangkok to Hua Hin is about 2 hours travel time.

PTT to Hua Hin?? How many hours?

I guess a taxi would be out of the question, surely more than

the eight hundred baht advertised, PTT to the airport? But Hua Hin?

Anyone travelled by private taxi from Patters to Hua Hin or Cha Am??

Not been to Hua Hin before but me and the Mrs were talking about it last night, coincidentally. A friend of hers has just bought an house there, so we're going next month. I thought it was about 3 hours from Bkk and then the 2 hours from Patters to Bkk. But if you think it's only 2 hours to Hua Hin, that's even better.

I would hazard a guess, that for 2,000 - 2,500 baht you could get a taxi. I don't know if there are any Toll roads though, like there are from Patters to Bkk?

I have driven from Pattaya to Hua Hin a few times. With clear roads it is about three and a half hours if you drive quickly. The route skirts Bangkok, so getting a bus to Bangkok and then one from there to Hua Hin wouldn't involve going far out of your way. I think you probably have to use different bus stations though, so getting from Ekkamai to (I am guessing) the Southern bus station would be the biggest pain.

There are buses that go from Patty to Mo Chit, then you don't have to change bus terminals - its a good ride on the BTS from Ekamai to Mo Chit

I get it, when you travel to Hua Hin you are in fact travelling near or verging the outskirts of Bangkok to get to Hua Hin. It all makes sense now. Whether it is infact two or three hours or 2300 or 2500 baht by taxi, not sure until a later date, cheers all.

Yeah, I heard about the hydrofoil...Ptty-Hua Hin 1 1/2 hours...That would be a great idea. Driving by car, you should get up early to avoid traffic through Bangkok....Then when it starts to smell fishy and you are heading towards Samut Songkram, you are halfway there....The Hydrofoil would be great for weekend getaways or even better yet..a ferry, to load the bike on... :o ...then another 6 hrs ride to the ferry in Dongsak for Samui....Someone call TAT and suggest it!

It's almost 400km journey. By bus (and change of stations) it may take 10-12 hours.

If your time is valuable, get a taxi. May cost you 3.5-4K baht, negotiate.

No idea where this info comes from.

2.5 hours to Ekkamai by bus

20 mins. max by skytrain to Victory Monument station

30 min. max wait for mini bus (they leave every 30 mins)

2.5 hours to HH.

Even in heavy traffic and bad weather not more than 7 hours centre to centre.

Here's a tip:

Scroll down to the bottom of the home page here.

Good! You have found the Hua Hin- Cha Am page.

Now look at it.

There is a private mini bus service from the Southern bus terminal in Bangkok that runs directly to Pattaya , so no problem for the return trip with just the one change.

I would assume that the same mini bus does the return trip Pattaya- Southern terminal so it may be possible to use the same method getting there.

OK, pay attention here!

There is no need to go to the southern bus terminal, it is a pain in the arse to get there and doesn't do the job.

Scroll down to the HH Forum and get all the info you need.

5 hrs comfortable drive.

with the bus obviously longer depends on how many stops and weather you get a formula 1 driver or not.

i like the idea of the hyrofoil although i've never seen one in ptty or hua hin.

There seems to be a few crossed lines here so I'll try and sew a few up.

The drive as Opothai says is a comfortable 5 hrs but can be done in a fair bit less given good traffic conditions and is the best option if you are in a hurry.

Taking the bus provides a logistical hassle as you have to cross BKK to get to the Southern Bus Terminal for the public bus or the Victory Monument for the minibus service.

Public Buses to Hua Hin leave from the Southern Bus Terminus in Bangkok. Getting there from either Moh Chit or Ekkamai can be a pain especially in heavy traffic.

This way can take around 5-6 hours even with good conections. PTY > BKK - 2 hrs / Across BKK to the Southern Bus Terminal - 1 hr / BKK > HH 2-3 hrs.

Another alternative can be to get the bus to either Ekkamai or Moh Chit and from either of these take the BTS to the Victory Monument from where minivans leave hourly to Hua Hin. Approx 4-5 hrs.

If you either have time on your hands, don't fancy having to haul arse across BKK in any way or are extremely pikey; you can get the train which leaves Patters at 14.30, arr BKK Hualamphong at 17.40 (but more realistically at around 1800 - 1830.)

From Hualamphong there is a train at 18.20 which arrives at HH at 22.15 or one at 19.15 which arrives at 23.10

If you are lucky you may even get to Hualamphong earlier in which case there is a train at 17.35 which arrives in HH at around 21.30.

If you go to Moh Chit by bus, grabbing a taxi to Bang Sue station and picking up a train from there is also an option. Just add about 10 minutes on the departure times from Hualamphong.

The hydrofoil appeared and disappeared every few years or so throughout the 1990s. It looks as though its dead and buried for good now.

For me the train wins hands down every time unless I'm in a real hurry.

Nice slow roll up to BKK with a few beers and a few smokes, a nice stroll across a few platforms which beats the hel_l out of having to drag myself across BKK, and then a nice roll down to HH with a few more beers and ciggies! Perfect!

Take bus from Pattaya to BKK, jump out at On Nut (first skytrain stop, others will get off also so no probs). Take the skytrain to Victory Monument stop (direction Mo Chit), then:

(from HuaHin-ChaAm Forum for the lazies here)

If you are already in BKK the best, fastest, cheapest and most convenient way is from Victory Monument - getting to the southern bus terminal is a pain.

Information is updated as follows:

Cost is now 160 baht. A/C Minibuses leave every 20-30 minutes from Victory Monument.

Take the skytrain to Victory Monument stop. Exit and stay to the left. You will walk along an elevated walkway for a few minutes that will bring you down into an area of market stalls and shops. You will see a hospital across the road to your left.

Go between the shops/stalls and come out on to a sidewalk in a small road. You will see a line of minivans. Across the road in front of a metal fence you will see guys sitting at small tables, ask anyone of them for HuaHin (Wah Hin) they will point to the right table.

Buy the ticket (the seller will point to the correct bus) and go back across the road.

Best seat (IMO) is behind the driver. Takes about 2.5 hours depending on traffic and/or weather.

I paid 2,000 Baht for a taxi (Izuzu station wagon) from Hua Hin to Pattaya in August of this year. Took about 2 hrs to get to Bangkok where the driver stopped at a toll booth on the express way we were then transferred to another Izuzu for the drive Bangkok to Pattaya about two and a half hours if I remember correctly.

The two drivers were long time friends and explained that switching taxis midway is quite common.

This is the info I got from the site suggested:

''Get Songthaew to North Pattaya Road bus terminal. Get government blue and white bus to Eckamai in Bangkok (Not Mo Chit). When you get into Bangkok look out for the begining of the sky train. The first station is On Nut.

Persuade the driver to let you off there. If not carry on to the next station which where the bus terminates in Eckamai. Get on the skytrain and take train towards Mo Chit and get off at Victory monument station. Go to the minibus service stand on the layby on the western side of the circus. Ask for Hua Hin and buy ticket from desk in street. They will then take care of you and your luggage and drive you to Hua Hin small soi opposite Tesco Lotus Express.

Do the reverse for Hua Hin to Pattaya but this tine of course you must get off the skytrain at Eckamai.

Journey tme under 5 hours. Cost 360 Baht total plus Songthaew in Pattaya.''

In addition to the formal and common route;

Get the taxi to Don Muang Airport and fly on over to Hua Hin on one of the smaller Cesan planes for the single air fare price of 3,200 baht and return ticket go look see. Seemingly expensive and still some hassle expected, although await opinion,

Am I right to think there had also been a ferry trip from Patters to Huan Hin once upon a time. Would be interested to know if such service existed once?

Site looks interesting. Alot of the threads concerning this topic center around how to get to Victory Monument once in Bangkok. One further point, some folk have said they can get to Hua Hin from Bangkok with a hired driver for the cheap price of 1,500 baht. I cant see that being a problem, so I may llok into it at a further date. Cheers all.

I have heard of a boat service but never checked it out.

Minbus - I'm sure there is a sevice direct but again I don't know how much.

You could hire a minibus and driver yourself...this can be about 1800 per day plus fuel, and very convenient if there's more than 2 of you.

I've driven there and as the others say you skirt Bkk to the South but it's not so simple the first time. Apart from Bkk the roads are fine!
