Hi, I'm keen on the new Range Rover Evoque. Went to the showroom (grey importer) and they quoted a good deal on the price. Only trouble is that the sat nav system loaded on this one is not suitable for Thailand. Official Rover dealer has the same problem apart from not yet having the Evoque in stock.

Was wondering if anyone have experience with this and could guide me on how to downgrade the sat nav software so that it could work with the Thai / SE Asia system. Thanks. :)

Yeah I have my doubts too. But not having sat nav is not really a deal killer for me as I like that car. smile.png

The wife's car normally has at least 2 or 3 people with ipads (with at least one cellphone acting as a hotspot), so in-car navi and entertainment is a lot less useful than it was a few years ago, but yes, it's pretty crappy have a non-functional feature in a car, especially when you've given the gov't all those taxes to own it.

Unfortunately It's par for course at this level of the market in TH though - still waiting for working factory GPS in my Cayenne too (approaching a year now).

Working Sat Nav in a Cayenne, I need the one in the previous Cayenne Turbo working, please let us now... As I know for the actual MB E class they want 5000bht for a dvd copy...

I would gladly pay 5k Baht for a DVD copy of working sat nav in the Evoque. :)

MB, BMW, Audi, Porsche and LR have been using HDD based systems rather than DVD for quite some time now and unless there is sufficient volume in the local market, in the case of Audi, Porsche and LR you won't been getting much help anytime soon. As for MB and BMW, it has been a very simple coding of software for the grey imports ever since the cars from MB TH and BMW TH have had Nav installed.

However you may care to check the following link which is a half way measure as the mapping maybe not the best, although not exactly for an Evoque, Audi, Porsche and VW owners might be happy. It certainly is worth the call to them.

When I saw you'd replied to this thread, I jumped out of my chair screaming "Woodsie to the rescue!".

jing jing!

But I've had a couple of beers too :)

Will check the link, thanks! :D

Hey Woodsie, thanks for that. I will certainly check them out. smile.png

You're most welcome PG and MRO, I am drinking beer as well! However on a more serious note I have been chasing a solution to this issue for quite sometime as it does have quite an impact on my income! Cheers to all. burp.gif

Did you ever get the Sat Nav issue sorted out for the Grey import Evoque ?

I'm about to get one and understand that the Sat Nav will not work. Its not a show stopper but it would be nice to have that feature working.

I didn't get the Evoque and settled for an SD4 HSE because it could fit in more golf bags.

Just replied to your PM about the insurance with some details. Sorry I'm not online on Thai Visa that often. Cheers.

I tried to PM MRO but it was rejected.

This question is open for anyone with an Evoque:

I'm being quoted 68,000 baht for 1st class insurance. Is this what other Evoque owners are paying ?

IHMO has a Range Rover Evoque. He maybe able to assist you.

I'm actually expecting my first renewal notice anytime now, so can't say for sure yet, but that does sound about right..

How much for a gray market Evoque?

Prices range from ~3.6M to ~4.8M depending on engine/grade/options..

Note that official prices dropped significantly earlier this year, so the gap between grey and official is now only a few hundred thousand Baht - but availability from the official channel remains poor apparently..

Wow. You can buy a house with that. 1.2-1.3 million is my top for cars.

The Evoque in the US starts at around $44,000 dollars, which is just around 1.3 million baht. Paying more than double for it is insane. Just get a Fortuner or a Pajero.

Wouldn't buy grey market again.

After sales service just isn't there. Take it from my experience and buy something with a factory warranty and available parts. Grey market warranty isn't worth shit from the importer.

I still think the Evogue looks like a Ssangyong that was sat on by an elephant.

That must be a good thing then, because the Ssangyong looks like sh!t.

Yes. Evogue has a more modern sh1t like look to it.thumbsup.gif I wonder what Clarkson thinks? He generally doesn't pull punches! Or more correctly calls a spade, a spade.

It's like comparing $250 speakers to $50,000 speakers - some will appreciate the difference, but others will think they all sound the same ;)

Prestige cars at 2 - 300% of US prices is not insane, not even unusual in Thailand. Have a look at the US prices of V6 Accords and Camrys for example.

The Evoque is very fashionable, kind of like a automotive version of the early iphone. May not be good value but they do look nice, at least for some. If you want one, pay the price (and the taxes), if not, buy something else. Note, price limit of 1.2 - 1.3 M will not even get a higher model Fortuner or Camry now days.
