BANGKOK: -- The government will find 2 million rai of land for water-retention purposes in the Central region by tomorrow, Science Minister Plodprasob Surassa-wadee said.

"We will complete this job before we return to Bangkok," he said yesterday as he accompanied Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on a tour of many provinces, which wraps up tomorrow.

It aims to organise the government to better manage water flow and water volume in the country this year.

Plodprasob said the government has already earmarked 470,000 rai of land for water retention, which is part of the government's efforts to prevent a flood crisis like last year. The government now plans to spend Bt49 billion on 2,516 flood-prevention projects. Of the total projects, 581 require urgent implementation.

"Up to 55 projects will likely be implemented in the next three months with a budget of Bt1.82 billion," PM's Office Minister Woravat Auapinyakul said.

In Lop Buri, Bang Nga municipal clerk Sakdipong Thamarchawakul said the premier was scheduled to visit the province today and more than 30 local leaders would submit their demands. "People should have a say in the panel that manages water volume in the Chao Phraya River, too. People's representatives as well as local administrative bodies should be allowed to sit on the panel," he said.

He added some areas such as Tha Wung Field should not be used for water-retention because many people lived there and judging by the landscape, it would be difficult to control water flow and to drain the water.

Meanwhile, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said in an interview with Blue Sky Channel that Yingluck should not be selective in planning flood prevention for the country.

"She has not included Tak and Sukhothai in her tour. I've noticed that there are no Pheu Thai MPs in these provinces. Yet, Sukhothai was one of the hard-hit provinces in the 2011 flood crisis," Abhisit said.

Again,

- Where's the proper research?

- Where's the detailed insighful analysis of historical data?

- Where's the water management experts who very eventually allowed to get involved and speak at the end of the last flood crisis?

- Where's the transparent discussion, and where's the public debate?

Just, well find 2 million rai by tomorrow, promise. From the science minister who has already well proven that he is incapable.

Not even 25% done in selecting the water retention areas but somehow they are magically going to find the remaining 75%/over 1.5M rai by tomorrow?!

And then we have the opposition party leader saying the govt should not be selective in planning flood prevention. To me that is double talk and basically saying don't pick any area for water retention.

How's that for good government folks?

Yes the politicians know best the flood experts are not on the same level of society,

so why listen to them their words since their wie is higher and bow deeper.

Clearly the minister is unqualified for the job, and likely a danger to the populace.

And no surprise they are touring PTP areas and ignoring Dem or other party areas.

It's not about the actual flood affects in all areas and how to balance them,

but about 'being seen' to be helping their political base.

Duplicitous claptrap and manipulation, in aid to raping the public coffers for kickbacks.

Just change the map scale on the acreage you 'found' for water detention and You will meet your goal lickey split. Now to get rid of that detained flood may require some more scientific thought by the ministry. I can see it now large flood lamps and oversized fans will be the next suggestion Right up there with prop wash, 3 month forests, tunnels, .and be sure and add the millions of sand bags.

All this planning must be giving those on the tour a massive headache.

Suphan Buri volunteers as catchment for Central Thailand

BANGKOK, 16 February 2012 (NNT) – The chief adviser to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives stated that Suphan Buri province is ready to become another water catchment for Central Thailand.

According to Banharn Silpa-arch, chief adviser to the Agricultural Minister, who yesterday inspected the progress of the construction of flood dikes behind Bang Pa In Industrial Estate in Bang Pa In, Ayutthaya province, 70% of the construction has been carried out.

He later visited the Wat Krasang floodgate in Uthai district to follow up on its THB40 million-baht maintenance project. The floodgate is located at the mouth of the Khao Mao canal, which is the source of the inundation in Rojana Industrial Estate, the districts of Uthai, Wangnoi, and eastern Bang Pa In of Ayutthaya.

Additionally, Mr. Banharn pointed out that Suphanburi province is ready to help by serving as another water catchment for Central Thailand.

Meanwhile, the construction project of the floodwall around Navanakorn Industrial Promotion Zone is already under way. The floodwall is to be 18 km. long, with a height of 5.5 metres above sea level. The Japan International Cooperation Agency has sent a team of experts to assist in its construction. The project is due for completion by 31 August.

Or perhaps the science minister will, by tomorrow, have a plan to fix the whole problem with skycranes to lift the water out in giant buckets and fly it to the sea, where madam could preside over photo op ceremonies.

But wait a minute where does giving relief packages with the paymasters name fit into this?

Never mind, there's plenty of pt lowlife who will eagerly fix this one so that they get their chance at the trough.

I reckon the water will decide which 2 million Rai it wants to settle in...

It really is laughable isn't it.

Once they have found this 2 million rai how do they intend to make the water go there and stay there.....

"here boy, here boy........ sit"

Wonder if there is an opportunity opening up for a water whisperer.

Wasn't it Suphan Buri that somehow completely avoided any flooding last year?

In order to stop confusing, contradicting and/or other statements we have a (limited?) number of working groups which deal with Water Management. K. Banharn as advisor to the Agric. Minister is not involved as such as far as I know. Furthermore IF Suphanburi province volunteers to serve as water catchment area surely the governor of that province would say so, not just any old chap living in the neighbourhood.

BTW wasn't it the Agric. Minister who admitted having ordered a delay of water release from dams in August/September 2011?

'Slippery eels' are said to like moist environments, so long as they pay well, too. cool.png

Could former-PM Banharn possibly be related to Kim-Jong-Eel, of North Korea, I wonder ? rolleyes.gif

That old guy (barnharn) OWNS Suphanburi. The governor does what he's told.

What do you know? Next you'll be telling me that Minister of Agriculture Theera Wongsamut under whom the Irregation Department falls, is from the Chart Thai Pattana party and a protégé of k. Banharn wink.png

Well, it's now one day on so did they?

I guess I shouldn't worry if Plod is on the case.

Funny how the PM is so closely involved in this little project. I wonder how much land the chap she met in the Four Seasons 'owns' in the area?

We may yet be surprised. It could be a shy chap who plans an anonymus donation for a good cause

Have they found it yet? It's almost 1730 hr... unsure.png

Maybe there will be an announcement when PM Yingluck has returned from her fieldtrip and been able to clean up a wee bit. Tomorrow during her weekly 'Saturday with the people' broadcast. I hope that's OK with you wink.png

Just to be sure. This is speculation on my part, not a promise. I'm afraid I've been wrong before. Also I put this item on the bottom of my list of things the government promised to tell or explain to us. Dept. PM Chalerm has a few open items for instance huh.png

It would take more than a shower to clean a Shinawatra up ;)
