I have big wart on my back side, and now it starts hurting a bit. I want to remove it. Also someone should check if there is a risk for skin cancer.

Can anyone recommend a hospital for that in Bangkok? It should be good, and I am willing to pay more but not complete ridiculous prices.

Before I went to BNH, but once I was there with an allergic problem, I wasn't impressed with them. But they were excellent on ears before. So I think it depends which department. The operation does not need to be beautiful without grains, it is on my backside and I don't care much.

Any recommendations?

Try Dr. Parichart at St. Louis Hospital. She's a US trained & board certified dermatologist. usually there in the early evenings I believe.

Do you have any idea of price?

This will sound silly an will require assistance.

I used to have a warty thing on my arm, the doc froze it off and it grew back.

The GF used an incense stick, repeatedly heating it (not burning or coming into contact), old folk remedy.

After a few days it shrank, after a few weeks it was gone never to return 20 years on, didn't even leave a scar.

i did some research and it works by heating and destroying the capillaries that feed the growth.

At Vejthani I paid 1,000 baht for biopsy (check for cancer) and about 1,400 baht for visit/laser removal in November. If cancer found would be added expense depending on treatment. Suspect St. Louis would be less.

I agree with you. Must have it checked for cancer first. That is pretty cheap for all of that really and yes the laser removal is the best. Using nitrogen (freezing) is a thing of the past.

Actually that is not the case if I am to believe my doctor. Nitrogen is better for killing cancer cells if perperly used but not available everywhere. Laser is much neater and cosmetic but a lower sussecess rate (likely because it does not effect the surrounding area as much?). Sugery to remove wide border is still the most effective and if found to be maligent would likely be used even after laser. There is now a cream available (brand name Aldera) which is also quite effective and may be used with other treatements as well as alone.

How it is removed will depend very much on whether the doctor thinks it needs to be biopsed. If she is confident from its appearance that it is not cancer, she will probably uise liquid notrogen. If she thinks a biopsy is indicated, more likely incision so that an intact specimen can be sent to the pathologist for examination.

The cost also will depend on whether or not it is biopsied since the cost of the biopsy will usually at least equal that of the cost of the removal.

Depending on what the doctor thinks is indicated (and if at St Louis) you may be looking at anywhere from 500 baht to 3 - 4,000 baht. 500 - 1,000 for without biopsy, 2 - 4,000 (proabbly abkolut 3,000) if with biopsy. But this is just a guess. St. Louis is at the lowest end of the price spectrum among private hospitals. You won't get a lower price except at a government hospital. And at a government hospital the risk is that the doctor you see may not have had experience with Caucasian skin and skin cancers as these are very rare in Thais. You need to see a doctor who has worked in a western country.

Thanks a lot! That is exactly what I wanted to know :-)

I know the government hospital here around the corner and I wouldn't enter it even if they pay me.....I got the most silly treatment that someone can think of, complete clueless......

I cannot comment on your condition specifically, you should get it checked out by a physician. But generally warts are caused by a virus. I know a home remedy that works fantastic. Remove the cotton from the end of a cotton bud and soak it in apple cider vinager. Place it over the wart and cover it with a water proof bandage for a day or 2. One day is usually all it takes. Eventually the wart gets hard and falls of. Very very little scaring.

I had a plantar wart (foot) removed several years ago at BNH, and it was removed by a *surgeon* -- (painful) anesthetic injections (plural) and scalpel involved. I now have another -- should I see a dermatologist, or are plantar warts "special"?

Well it is big and inflamed. I think I should have done what you advise 2 years ago.

(that wart is now 40 years old...so I had enough time)

I had 2 warts on my left fore arm. Had my sister send me over some wart remover from the US. 1 wart fell off after about 3 days, the other went ballistic and blew up to about the size of a small marble. I just had it removed surgically this week at a private hospital here in Lopburi. They sent the cut off wart down to Bangkok to be checked for cancer. Won't know the results till this coming Friday. This surgery and biopsy cost me 3300 baht. Try and get that kind of surgery in the US for what is about 110 bucks. Yeah right.

Well I am from Europe, at home it would cost me zero.

Salicylic acid is cheap and avail everywhere. Try it first.

It is big, inflamed and hurt a bit. So I think not the right time for trying something. If I would have the mental strength I would take a knife and cut it out myself.

But it seems I am a whining coward passifier.gif

if it is painful and inflamed it could be infected and self-surgery would be most unwise.

then there is also the issue of whether the lesion needs to be biopsied. It may not be a wart at all.

thats who I go to , I have had 10-15 areas zapped with the liquid nitrogen , one was real bad on my earl and I had to have local surgery to cut it out ,

This was done downstairs at the plastic surgery where Dr. Parichart sent me ,

I normally just show up without an appointment about 20 minutes before she starts, only had to wait another 10-15 minutes max.

The price is very good , her English is very good as she worked in the UK before.

In fact i plan on going there tomorrow !

I had a wart on my finger for 14 years that kept getting bigger. The usual treatments didn't work. I took 100 mg of elemental zinc per day ( as zinc gluconate). In six weeks it was gone.

I've already posted this on a previous thread. I had a wart that needed removing on my lower abdomen. I went to my local government hospital. Due to the size, the doctor didn't want to burn it off. She cut it out after numbing the area with an injection. I had a few stitches and given antibiotics. All done in under an hour. The wart was sent off for biopsy. Total cost was just 700 Baht, or so. The result of the biopsy was negative, and the doctor said, on that basis the rest of my warts could be burned off.

I zapped one...a little one meself just the other day with a swensons birthday cake......told you'se before....easy and simple.

I'm a little skittish about "shaving" the darn thing. This new one is starting to get annoying enough that I think it's time I bit the bullet again and go for "surgery." The previous procedure was effective as I was wart-free for several years. I think I just had bad luck to get another one. My procedure didn't seem quite as bad as yours: The shots stung quite a bit, but once they worked the area was totally numb. I didn't really scrutinize the procedure, but I don't think there was any red hot implement -- I think I would have noticed burning flesh? The "hole" left behind wasn't quite as big as yours, but it sure did hurt when the pain killers wore off!

My wife had a planar foot-wart burned out (electrocuted) at a local clinic. The hole is her foot was big, so I though it was gone for sure. The wart came back after 2 months, together with 5 new ones (about 1 every 2 months). We can't afford to go to an expensive hospital. She has standard social insurance. She works every day and she has to be able to walk (after taking out the 6 warts). We also have tried liquid nitrogen without success. They said laser treatment would not help for planar warts (she went to a laser clinic). Are there any options left?

Aldara is sold in what are considered single use packets (and is very expensive) but for most one packet can be used for more than one application unless a very large area is involved (which might be the case for large wart). Expect this would be a long process.
