I have a regular CCTV camera with an analog signal out (BNC)

I've checked on line for an IP converter so that I might be able to connect it (or more via a switcher) up to the modem/router & view it over the internet.

What I've seen on a search is

1) products by AXIS - too expensive - a couple of hundred euros (they call them servers)

all the way to

Z) chinese products - very cheap - but I'd have to order a big bag of them

Has anyone used one bought locally in Bangkok ?

Also where, what price & what's involved in getting it to work ?

Thanks

Probably the most straightforward and least expensive would be to replace your CCTV camera with an IP camera (with on board server)..obviates the need to invest in discreet DVR./server unless you need to record.....

You will have to check out security equipment suppliers in BKK yourself .........

This site shows 'em

Not that it matters but BNC refers to the type of connector on your coax ( bayonet connector).. used for analogue or digital signals.

Your connector is likely a cheap "F" connector that screws in like on your TV?

Thanks David,

I hope to be in Bangkok next month & will check out what the local IT stores have.

I understand your advice re buying an IP camera making more sense.

Will update with what I find and end up doing.

btw what's the difference between an IP camera and an IP camera/server.

My intention was to connect the camera (via the analog to IP converter) to our True modem.

now don't quote me but it would appear that the IP ( internet protocol) camera has an on board server hence the name..yes?? Soo same same ...lol.ie: if you have a discreet digital camera wired to a server/digital video recorder think it is no longer an IP camera..just a digital camera...coffee1.gif

If your gonna lash out on a server do check that it has an analogue coax input ( if indeed your CCTV camera is analogue)ie that it does a/d conversion like most digital video recorders..probably they all have one but best be sure eh!

I've used this: Aviosys IP Video 9100A Plus (search Google), with decent results. It is four-channel, as well; however the inputs are RCA jacks, so you would need a BNC-to-RCA adapter as well. The input signal is composite video, and it has a built-in web server, with the ability to select and view a camera in a browser window, as well as automatically email pictures, if required. Pretty neat little device, but the software is pretty basic. Probably exactly what you are looking for. I've seen prices between $80 - $120 on line. I think even Sears carries it.

Good luck.

Edit: Sorry, you asked if anyone bought one in Bangkok. I bought it at a kiosk on the 4th floor of Fortune City (back in 2006). You may still be able to find one in one of the shops there.

Thanks Sateev,

that's what I'm looking for - 4 input is even better as I have a few analog security cameras (standard & IR).

All have bnc composite video out. (I also have bnc to rca connectors).

Wonderful
