New Topics Starting, Whereas The Old One Could Be Updated

Recently the shooting of the afghans was presented on here as a World News post, instead of continuously updating the post with the newest information, a new post has been started, why are these posts not put together, is it because the poster is a sponsor?

This abuses TV, as we other posters are continuously updating our posts to help others in their quests for answers, where are the parallels between sponsors and posters when adding topics. Even the mods ask the posters to post in a particular post to aid someone, instead of opening a new post.

Stop the updates and post in the original post, and do not delete comments from those who ask you to do it in future, space on servers is not just for the sponsors but for those who read and also give input to TV. Those who input, although not paying, contribute more to TV than others.

Not sure where you get the idea that World News is sponsored as it is a service. It is an automated feed with limited control at our end except for an occasional topic by mods/admin. This is a continuation of the original topic that was fed to the forum and as such the original one is redundant. We do not 'merge' topics as it breaks both search engines and member e-mail subscriptions or newsletter links. Topics originated by TV staff or members are different in that there is full control of their creation and any duplicates.

Our choice is to either close the original with a link to the updated version or close the updated version with a link to the original. Will look for feedback for these two options to see what is preferred.

If the news editor is a feed, then how come it deleted a post by me complaining that it should not start a new post updating another post, not just my post but another one from another poster about to ask the same thing.

The update of the afghan shootings could be put into one post, am sure that one of the admins or the news editor could do that.

In fact, just noticed that Scott has done this, excellent work.

The original post is from a news feed, the forum is still moderated after all and your post was an off topic post that was deleted. As you should know by now, these kinds of questions are rightly posed by either PMing a moderator on duty or asking technical questions in this forum.
