PHUKET: -- The Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX) at Royal Phuket Marina was officially launched at 11am today with the cutting of the ribbon by Phuket Vice Governor Sommai Prijasilpa.

Joining Vice Governor Sommai in officiating the opening was Bangonrat Shinaprayoon, the director of the Phuket office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and Gulu Lalvani, chairman of Royal Phuket Marina.

“Now in its ninth year, PIMEX is an established and successful event in the marine and leisure calendar. Like its location, PIMEX is a relaxed event where participants celebrate the boating, leisure and luxury lifestyle in an ideal tropical destination,” said Show Director Andy Dowden.

“The show is more than boats on display but also an opportunity to see the latest luxury products, properties and engage in some Phuket hospitality,” he added.

PIMEX boasts the largest in-water boat display, with more than 50 boats representing the leading boat brands from around the world.

“The largest boat on display this year is a 92-foot powerboat, and the smallest is a little over 20-foot. And there is everything in between – different sizes, specifications, prices, power and sail. Whatever your boating needs, you will find something to suit at PIMEX,” said Mr Dowden.

“I would like to thank the sponsors and exhibitors for putting this fantastic show together. We are very happy to be here. Phuket’s absolutely the center for tropical marine lifestyle,” he added.

The show is open from 11am to 8pm daily through Saturday.

On Sunday, the show’s final day, the expo will draw to a close at 6pm.
