fanciman
I *never* get 50 baht notes as change. It is always 20s and a coin. Somebody has them. Is it you? Can anybody else confirm this phenomenon?

Neeranam
Can anyone remember the 500 bht notes that were a limited edition for the Kings 50 years on the throne. I had a couple of them and spent them whilst out on the piss one night. Anyone know how much they are worth now?

Soju
I've noticed a phenomenon with many currencies of the world where 50 whatevers don't seem to be used much. Back in my home country, 50 cent pieces were rarely seen, and 50 dollar bills not very common either. In almost every country I've visited denominations of 50 are not very popular. People seem to prefer to use multiple 20 or 25 denomination coins/bills rather than a 50. Sometimes trying to distinguish between a multitude of various denominations is confusing especially at night when you can't see the color well, and even more so when all the bills have the same picture of the King on them. Plus cash registers have limited space, so retailers typically don't like to carry 50's it seems. Being a coin collector since an early age, I always loved collecting 50 cent pieces and whenever I see any new coin or bill in a 50 denomination in good condition I save it as a collection. For me, the 50's are interesting because they're not so common.
Mighty Mouse
Depending on how sober I am and how dark it is, I get the 50's mixed up with the 20's. I hate 'em too.
PeaceBlondie
When I saw the topic title, I thought, "Does he mean the 1950's? Or is he over 60 and can't remember the 50's?" About once every week, I go to the bank with about 10,000 baht in 1,000 baht bills, and get about 80 notes of 100 baht, 30 notes of 50 baht, and 25 notes of 20 baht. However, never get a quantity of 100 or 50 or 20, because the bank teller gets confused ("You want 50 of 20, or you want 20 of 50?"). I notice that the 50's are usually new notes, whereas the 100's and 20-baht notes are often used. Right, you hardly ever get a 50 in change. They use 20-baht notes, even five to a refund. My lady at the end of the lane, in a convenience store in the boondocks, loves it when I give her coins. She has no use for extra bills.

Ulysses G.
I go to the bank and get change every couple of days. We use lots of 50 baht notes and have no problem getting or using them. I haven't noticed anything unusual about them at all and they look nothing like any other note so I don't understand how anyone could get confused. I did get an old, over-sized 1,000 baht note today from the ATM and got rid of it as soon as possible. They suck!
