Info for any snooker fans, extensive live coverage of the 2012 Betfred World Snooker championship from Sheffield on True Visions Sports 5 (channel 105) from now till 7 May. Seems to start around 4 pm.

Stephen Hendry made a 147 maximum last night.

For well over a decade - my time in Thailand - i have searched in vain every year for coverage of this event, and found nothing - surprising considering the popularity of the game. I understand that in the early 90s when James Wattana was doing well, it did get some coverage in Thailand - at least the games he played in - but nothing since.

So it is great to finally be able to watch it this year. Only problem is, i've become so out of touch, i really haven't a clue who half the players are. Watched a chap called Trump last night (son of Donald perhaps?!) and loved the way he played - reminded me a lot of Jimmy White.

Anyway, i think Higgins and Hendry are playing tomorrow. Now those are two players i do know a lot about. Should be a good one.

What would really make my day, is if Star Sports started covering the World 9 Ball Championship, which they always used to. A great competition.

One can also stream it.

Good ole Ronnie!

Yep it was good to see attacking entertaining snooker win over the cautious stuff that Ali naively thought could serve him well. I don't think you ever win the World title by simply waiting for it to come to you, and certainly not when you are up against what he was.

Really do hope Ronnie sticks with it. Such a great player when he puts his mind to it. He's like a version of Jimmy White that also plays great safety and doesn't bottle it when the finishing line is in sight.

Only thing i didn't like was that Alex Higgins-esque business of carrying his child through almost the entire celebrations at the end. Put the <deleted> kid down, it's not a baby!

Speaking of Alex, having as i explained earlier, become so out of touch with snooker in the last ten years or so, i just did a google search to see whether he was still with us or not and unsurprisingly learnt that he passed in 2010. With the way he abused himself, what can you say, but even that considered, his last few years of living in a caravan do seem pretty cruel.

Anyway, that sadness aside, was wondering how his 69 break compared with Ronnie's 92.

Bizarre to look at his cueing style. So quickly up off the ball. Anyway, i think Ronnie's was more impressive because the shots he was having to make, weren't because of bad positional, but just the way the balls were on the table.
