I saw some numbers in Bangkok Post where an MBA starting out would be around 20K per month. Strange as it seems I never realised by GF had a MBA. But seriously new graduates 17K, MBA grads 20K

How long has the person in question been working? What experience do they have?

Three Thai people I know working in O&G who have first degrees in Engineering / Accountancy + MBA are each earning in the region of Bht200K per month. But they have around 10 years experience + MBA.

Another Thai guy I know with an MBA who works in Thai TV Business Development is earning considerably more than that.

An average would be absolutely meaningless, even if anybody could collect accurate data.

The first question I would ask is, which university awarded the degree? There are plenty of shonky degrees on offer, particularly in the good ole U.S. of A., which are either worthless or not much better.

The second question I would ask is, what job does the person perform, how many years of experience, and what sort of track record?

Thai MBA from an average Thai Uni, begin at 15-18k thb p/m.

Let's not forget last year's pledge that all BA holders will make at least 15k p/m... still not brought it by government.

From that beginning point it will increase depending on the employer and position (obviously), and also the University.

MBA from a US university will be a different story. As will one from Chula or Thammasat.

Also from that starting point of 15-18k thb p/m, it will depend on family connections and names on how fast they will rise up through the ranks.

Firstly, let me point out I know nothing about this subject.

Secondly, the salaries being thrown around here seem a bit steep to me. I know of people with degrees that decided to go back to rubber trees as they make more money from those. How hard is it to get an MBA? If it is quite easy why dont more Thais do it? I guess after the finacial outlay for a degree, a mba shouldnt be much more, or am I wrong?

Maybe there is a difference in salaries or those with mba's and those with mba's and a connected family?

Why would anyone get an MBA from a U.S. university, then come back to work in Thailand unless they were already rich, in which case monthly salary is probably of no concern to them anyway.

I went to grad school at NYU (not MBA). I heard the average starting salary for a graduating MBA was around 120k/year.

If you are interested in making money, become a government minister, or join the police force.

Or get involved with O&G...thumbsup.gif

I'm calling B.S. Nobody ever got rich working for someone else (with the exemption of everyone who works on Wall Street). $90k - 120k /year is a lot of cash if you're over here, but it a'int jack shit in big cities like NY or London.

Whose talking about 90-120k/yr ?....even in Thailand....start talking 220k/yr....NET....then we are talking

So I am calling BS as well...you dont know what your talking about

Allow me to put something in perspective...an average Thai production operator working offshore can make between THB 120-150k/m (and they do get paid on time off at a reduced rate).....I have a Thai guy working for me now as an inspector who is making over 200k/m

Are Thai students automatically able to live in the US because they went and studied there for two years?

My partner's friend is from Mukdahan, she has a Thai MBA from an average Thai Uni, she works as a teacher in a private Bangkok school and earns less than 15,000thb.

It's all about the Uni, and also the family.

Some of the Uni's require the fees to be paid, and little else. They carry no weight. Yours (if you're Thai) for X0,000 thb.

Chula ranks in the top 200 Uni's in the World - or did when I checked about 4 years ago. You're probably gonna pay a few million, and you're not going to be buying your grades.

Get an MBA from here, have a long Sino-Thai name and you're not going to be beginning on 18,000thb p/m like someone 'graduated' from Ramkamhaeng Uni.

As I said, average Thai person with no real connection, with a Thai MBA from an average Thai Uni, starting salary will be 15-18k p/m. :)

Actually the girl in question is a BBA (Bachelor of business administration). She has 2 BBA degress from two different colleges (one full time and one correspondence).

What would be the wisdom in her getting an mba degree in thailand and from which college, to maximise salary?

No one gives a shit about the number of syllables in the name, it just has to be a name. No one gives a shit about racial heritage either, it's about money and / or power.

The Chinese have the cash and the Thais know it so the crafty ones go into the business of taking the cash off of the Sino-Thai businesses*; most of the politicians are veterans of the army or police, the ranks of which are over-represented by the sons of Isan with short surnames. Chidchob only has two syllables to his name and he probably wins matches for his football team with judicious glares at the referees.

*Granted that the CP group has currently got the upper hand in this game of one-upmanship.

Well done Guesthouse, you have the highest earning acquaintances clap2.gif

As the O.P. has asked for the average salary, I would think this would be around the 20-25k per month area.

Don't get any degree in Thailand. Waste of money. Network, make connections, and work you're way to the top with what you already have. Education doesn't mean jack s*it here.

Oh.. then which country would be the least expensive and easiest to get a good mba degree from for a thai citizen?

The U.K, in my opinion, has the best quality education for the most reasonable price. A Bachelor degree from a good U.K university will only set you back around $30k or so. From a good U.S. university you're talking around $140k.

UK MBA can be completed in 1 year, vs. an American university 2 years.

UK MBA will set you back around $30k, vs U.S. MBA $100k.

This may sound high, but a quality education is a big investment. I worked on Wall Street for 5 years. Except for the U.K, U.S. and France, it was generally accepted that all other degrees were inferior.

If you plan to spend you're entire career in Thailand, then an MBA ain't worth it.

So you want to put your Thai G/F through uni?

Most Thai MBA's are not worth the paper they are printed on. Just pay the uni fees and she is awarded one garanteed.

What she does with it is another matter. Usually MBA's are supliments to other professions.

Is your G/F already working in a professional field?

OP... the range of salaries for Thai citizens with an MBA working in Bangkok will be so large that any average is unlikely to be of relevance to your friend... if you provide further details about her previous work experience and her academic record we may be able to provide more useful information

I would second the opinion that fresh MBA grad makes average 20-25K. This is generally true across all industries for local grads.

I'd say an average starting salary with MBA would probably be in the range of THB 15k - 30k a month depending on a variety of factors, eg mutinational vs local; specialised vs simple manual, small vs large, length of time working etc.

After that, an average for the whole spectrum would be difficult to call. Also depends on how you define average. I've worked with Thais with MBAs earning literally 10k to THB 1mio a month and up, particularly if you factor in bonuses and whole package. Obviously those at the top are seasoned professionals and skew things far more than the newbies at the bottom. Websites such as jobsdb and jobrapido give a flavour and I wouldn't be surprised to hear a "mean" average of THB 30 - 50k/ month for Bangkok.
