Dual Fuel Pickup Information Wanted - Lpg / Petrol

Does anyone know of a dual fuel pickup available in Thailand?

I see lots of trucks with big LPG tanks behind the cab. Must be the cheapest way to fuel a pickup as well.

I Googled and thought I had found something on a GM (Thailand) website, but it eludes me yet.

I'll be looking to buy a new pickup in 2 years, so all info gratefully received.

Any petrol pickup can be converted to also using LPG/NVG. This just means diesel pickups are not an option, so that leaves I think: Toyota and Mitsubishi. But maybe somebody else can chip in here.

Yes the Chevy Colorado did a diesel/NGV, but did not last long, now that should read the engine did not last long, they were all recalled over a year ago...

Yes but they also had a lot of problems running this on a normal diesel engine and cost the transport Companies a lot of money to convert the engines.

Mitsubishi has the Triton 'off the shelve' as it were with petrol/CNG, but 1/3 of the bed is taken up with the Tank ! + not everywhere can you buy CNG/NGV........ I looked a year ago the salesman said no problem as could fit 2x LPG tanks under the bed and mount the spare wheel in the back bed.

Tata has the 2x CNG tanks under the bed + will fit a 3rd one in the back bed, but it has NO petrol tank, so runs only on CNG..

Toyota has the 2.7 lt petrol with CNG/NGV

Any PETROL pickup can be converted to CNG/NGV or LPG........... CNG/NGV is a lot cheaper that LPG

Thanks ignis, that's really interesting, I didn't know Chevy had stopped offering the Colorado CNG.

I am very happy with my Mitsu Triton. 6 months and 30,000 km on it now.

I have logged every mile and every fill up. So far I have saved just under 90,000 Bt in fuel cost. and figure the truck will be free in under 4 years in fuel saving alone.

On the road with NGV I get 13 kpl where on petrol I get 11

There has been 1 or 2 times in some very rural area I could not get NGV and just use the regular gas with no problem. So this truck gives you more options on what fuel to use with just a flip of a switch.

On other post some complain about long lines to get NGV. But most places have lines for larger truck and other lines for cars and pick ups. usually I don't wait more than a minute of two and the savings is well worth my time. And in the 6 months I have had this truck on the routes I take, there are more and more NGV stations.

I have paid as little as 70 stang per km, but most times it is just under 1 baht per km. Up north it cost 2 baht more than it does in the BKK, Pattaya area.

Would I buy a NGV truck again. Yes in a heart beat. And many more companies are starting to make NGV cars and trucks. Even Honda with thier new City NGV coming out in a few months

Not as far as I can make out from their web site.

Their "contact" tab does not make it easy for me to ask questions in English.

Maybe that one will have to wait until my next visit to Thailand - unless one of you guys can come up with the answer for me.

One more point for you Jeffrey - I see you claim more kpl for CNG than petrol. I always thought CNG was less efficient than petrol - energy available per litre.

As far as I can remember: no petrol version on 4x4 for Triton. Also not for Vigo if I remember correctly.

CNG is less efficient than petrol, about 10%.

From the Mitsubishi website it seems that there are no AT transmission CNG models available and no Triton Plus either. There are only 3 CNG models, all MT - one of each cab type.

I figured this by working through the "price estimator"on their site. This shows all model options.

Toyota Motor Thailand has introduced a bi-fuel version of the Hilux Vigo Champ that can run on either petrol or compressed natural gas (CNG). 4 x 2 2.7L V VTi CNG. Look up Vigo smartcabs on the Toyota Thailand website. There is a much cheaper standard cab too.

The CNG conversion of the engine has nothing to do with the transmission either AT or manual...if there are not CNG AT models available,it is simply because there re not to many pickups with AT available at all....but if you have a car with AT that you want to convert to CNG/LPG it should not be a problem...

...now,it's the "up" post that I don't get ...
