I loved playing cricket. Started playing with a number of local Indian kids when I was a nipper but found out quite soon that batting was not my thing so I concentrated on bowling which was still not great. I could however bowl fast so that was it, and endless torrent of full pitched balls aimed directly at the stumps. As the years went by I got faster and faster but the doctor told me I had to stop because it was doing my left knee in. Sad day.

Wouldn't say I was a frustrated cricketer but I am keen for a game or a bit of net practice. I can bring a bat but I have no balls.....oh wait.

I play in the garden with the kids and their mates.... with the usual rules applied:

over the wall = 6 and out

can't be out first ball

dad (while batting) has to supply dolly catches

the youngest has to bat first and sulks when not batting or bowling

no-one wants to be back stop - but there MUST be one

20+ runs can be amassed after a hook into into the foliage
