hahahaha, again another example of someone who thinks there stuff is worth more than it really is. I deal with these kinds ALL the time. Just looked your watch up pal, although I don't have the serial # and presuming your details are correct....... $4000 Retail. Spoke to 3 dealers, all within $300. But you keep dreaming, and Good Luck to you, you're gonna need it.

I have seen rolexs, cartiers, breitlings in pawn shops around pattaya. I have never seen one above a value of 120,000. All of them in boxes with original certificates.

There is a big difference to the retail value and pawning value. Your best option would be to phone a friend.

Or I'll lend you 100,000, with the watch as a deposit. With a 20% interest charge.

As for the gold being 18ct, it doesn't have much value in Thailand in comparison to Thai gold. There not interested.

Regards

Poor People.... You are the one that's needing to pawn your watch (which obviously is your most prized possession)

And again, just because something is on the internet for a price, DOES NOT, keyword is NOT, mean that is the value of something. I will be more than happy to list some dog shit on eBay for a thousand baht, but will sell it to you for half price..... but, probably need to wait for you to pawn your watch first. But let us know how much you get for your watch...... :)

Do you have the original papers?

Where did you purchase the watch please?

If you want to pawn it do not go to a pawn shop here you will not get the 100.000 you want irrespective of what you or anybody else thinks it is worth,i suggest you book a ticket to the UK and pawn/sell it in Mayfair or the like.Even Singapore would be a better option.

If you have the paperwork and documents maybe we can do something!

Ok mate no reply from you or PM so you probably have got it sorted.

With timepieces that are to be pawned or sold the paperwork and history is very important and gives the buyer piece of mind same as if you was buying a car.

No paperwork and you will be lucky to get a decent price.

good luck whatever you decide to do.

C'mon guys.. cut the guy some slack.. clearly most do not know what they are talking about, nor have the money to buy to one nor have they seen one. It is a solid gold Rolex daydate (the gold alone is well over what the guy is asking to borrow and he is not trying to sell it to you). The gold bracelet alone is almost 70 grams@1170 baht scrap price so i suspect his needs of 100k on loan is more than fair and far under any gold weight value of the piece. GM56 is merely asking whether anybody any suggestions for someone who is not going to take advantage of him. GM56 If you have no luck then please let me know and can organize your 100k baht without a problem. Andy

Its not "solid" its 75%... 18k is .750.... fyi

1170 baht is the scrap price for 18k gold per gram.

Tj is spot on with those numbers on loan. If the watch is in excellent condition, and you’re a really good salesman, you might get 80k on sale.

you will not get 100,000 for it..... It is maybe worth 75-95k; on a pawn you will be lucky to get about 50k, on a sale maybe 70k, and that's if your lucky.

Guy's,with all due respect the watch is worth a minimum of 5000 GBP. I had a valuation for insurance purposes in Hatton Garden last year. Cost of new replacement 14750 GBPounds, value secondhand 6000 GBPounds. You obviously dont know the watch,if you google it all will become clear. If you can get one for the prices you have quoted, let me know and i'll remortgage the house and have 50 of 'em. There is knowhere on the planet where you can get this model for that price !biggrin.png

You are correct. The value is about 5000 GBP. But when pawned, they will give you about 25% the value of the item. A used watch will get about 40% the actual retail value, if in excellent condition.

Sorry, but that’s the way it works. I have bought and sold many time pieces.wai.gif

On your assessment you are saying they lend 1/3 of the price of the scrap gold which is approx 4800 us (in this country where gold is king and a rolex is called the KING). I suggest you wakeup... there is over 3.3oz of pure gold (not 18k) in a daydate. Highly likely you have never owned one and I suggest when you want to see one in real life give me a call!! Why can't people be helpful rather than have angst and be jealous.

The assesment on the gold value is neither here nor there, this is a "piece" and would not be pawned or sold as scrap value.

It is a Rolex and perfect working order like i said before the value is retained in its authenticity and also the original paperwork that is what a buyer wants to see.

The gold buyers use the ploy "it is only worth scrap value to me" to defraud the buyer and obviously get the best price for selling it on which in this case would be around the amount any Rolex collector is willing to pay for it.

Rolex watches sold on E-Bay are a definate no no,you need to meet and haggle and talk about the price.

Dealers in Bangkok http://www.rolex.com/en#/store-locator/thailand/bangkok/bangkok

Good luck again, but stay away from the pawn shops if at all possible wink.png

5000 GBP is the minimum value set by the Op, not me. You’re preaching to the choir.wai.gif

OP. How did you do? Did you get what you wanted? I hope you were able to make a good deal, and get home. Please post your results.wai.gif

Didn't get to Bangers, was in Pattaya last week tho. Pawn shop on 3rd road, left hand side, about 300 metres before Pattaya Tai offered me 90000 Baht loan on a 5 month ticket @ 2% month interest. However, the slight grin on his face and the fact that i had to almost reach thru the cage to prise my watch back after his appraisal left me somewhat concerned ! Hence the title of my original post !!! By the way, what's with the "get home" ?

Sorry, my mistake. In the OP you mentioned a family emergency, and for some reason I was thinking you needed to get back to UK.

OP - Here's why the numbers written earlier are correct.

  1. A Pawn Shop is a business, and they need to make a profit.
  2. If you fail to return, they need to sell your watch on and get the same return as if they bought it; 100-150% on top basically.
  3. Run of the mill pawnshop will not sell that many Rolex's though, so they will then shift it onto a specialist dealer (as mentioned before) who will also want to make 100% + return on is.
  4. So, you will get something like 20% of the actual value of it (by the way, for insurance purposes are always more that actual value).

Go direct to a dealer and try to get a price there and sell it would be my advice.
