Notstupid30
MANCHESTER UNITED want Frank Lampard and the Chelsea star is ready to move to Old Trafford. Lampard has been told he is no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge, with his contract set to run out in the summer. United manager Alex Ferguson is convinced the veteran midfielder, 34, can still do a job at the very highest level. He is a long-time admirer of the player and tried to get him before he even joined Chelsea. It is unlikely a deal will be done this month — when a fee would be involved — while Lampard is also keen to see out the rest of the season at Stamford Bridge. But United are prepared to offer him a one-year deal in the summer, with the promise of a second year if everything goes well. Contact has already been made from Old Trafford to Lampard’s representatives. He currently has a number of options including another Premier League club and two abroad. But United are firm favourites to land him in a deal that would have seemed unthinkable at the start of the season. nev
Nice unbiased piece by liverpool-kop. Seeing howard Webb has been appointed to ref the game, no excuses decisions go for and against each team, as this artical shows. http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2012/09/lfc-vs-man-utd-20-year-refereeing.html?m=
StevieH
odd that paddy power shortened odds on united to win as soon as webb was appointed eh wasn't it? united 4 - 0 liverpool, van persie with a couple, couple of dodgy pens and suarez sent off. mister ferguson has decreed it thus and sergeant webb will provide. nev
Why? howard webb was a liverpool fan growing up but now follows rotherham united so why would he be biased to man utd? just a made up myth by the media that he favours united.
BangrakBob
just a made up myth by the media that he favours united. "In the 40 Manchester United matches Webb has taken charge of in all competitions, he has awarded them ten spot kicks (or one in every four games) and two to the Red Devils’ opponents (one per twenty matches played, as I’m sure you could figure out). This means that 16.7% of the penalties that Webb has awarded in his career have gone to United, though they have only appeared in 10.4% of his matches, whilst their opponents account for just 3.33% of his penalties from the same proportion of games."
BangrakBob
just a made up myth by the media that he favours united. "Aside from Manchester City, United’s three other major rivals have penalties given against them more regularly with Webb than with other refs as well. It’s interesting to note that whilst the five teams here are all awarded penalties at roughly the same rate by other Premier League whistlers (between a range of just one per 6.36 to 7.35 matches), for Webb it varies wildly between 3.55 and 12.50."
BangrakBob
just a made up myth by the media that he favours united. "What we can see is that from eight seasons of Premier League football, Webb has awarded the teams at least one penalty in: 6 seasons – Manchester United 3 seasons – Liverpool and Manchester City 2 seasons – Arsenal and Chelsea Whilst United have never gone more than one season without a Webb awarded spot kick, and Liverpool no more than two, the other three have all had four-year runs without one, with Manchester City going five! I think the strangest figure falls to Chelsea: just one penalty awarded by Howard Webb in 21 matches since August 2005. Only two were given against in that period too in fairness, though both came in one match against a certain Salford based side…."
smedly
Those stats in sport mean absolutly nothing TBH simply because individuals and teams have over the years stood out above the rest I'll use this simple example and see if you can get your head around it Taking tennis before the magic of the camera, was McEnroe a very skillful player that statistically played such an accurate line game that he was called foul many more times than he should have been compared to other players or was he so crap that he did play outside the line more than others or were the refs so bad (or good) that they got the calls right most of the time or wrong most of the time for either of the above senarios Web could be a better ref than the rest (or worse), Manu could have been so accurate and skillfull over the seasons that they attracted more last ditch attempts to stop them scoring in the penalty area more often than any other team in the PL therefore forcing penalties I suspect the underlined above to be closer to the truth There are so many ways to look at it, Ronaldo was a penalty maker - he was so fast and skillful on the ball that more often than not the only way to stop him was to bring him down, in my opinion he avoided more fouls (or penalties) by dodging the offending late foot of a defenders tackle than he was awarded the foul, he also dived a few times but hey no worse than others

Notstupid30
ALEX FERGUSON still wants Ashley Cole to join Frank Lampard at Old Trafford. SunSport reported yesterday how the Manchester United boss will make a summer move for Lampard. Full-back Cole, 32, is also firmly in Ferguson’s sights and both players are out of contract at the end of the season. Lampard, 34, has already been told that he will not be offered a new deal while Cole has failed to reach an agreement on a new one-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Ferguson is willing to offer both players a 12-month contract with the promise of a second year if everything goes well. Lampard is very keen on the move while Cole is thinking about it as the chance to go to big-spending Paris St Germain is also on offer. Ferguson will lose Paul Scholes and most likely Ryan Giggs to retirement at the end of the season. That is a wealth of experience leaving the United dressing room and the United boss wants people to replace them who have won the highest honours and can help bring along the younger players.
