[Myanmar] Security Tight In Sittwe, Rangoon

Rangoon and the Arakan State capital Sittwe are under tight security on Friday amid rumors that there might be protests and then violent attacks after Friday prayers at mosques in the two cities. Rangoon residents said the police are patrolling the downtown core, especially in predominantly Muslim neighborhoods. There were also reports that some mosques will not be holding prayers today. Likewise, a journalist in Sittwe told The Irrawaddy that there is a heavy presence of security forces in the city’s center.
